I skipped Asphalt 9 Legends because it didn't make sense for me to play with a few of people on PC without the possibility of global crossplay, since I don't like playing on either mobile or tablet.
Currently you can play with people from any platform, the game runs in 4K with an unlocked frame rate and for the first time looks and runs really well on PC.
What's not to like here.
If you haven't played Asphalt 9 Legends, then you simply don't quite know what's butter smooth performance at peak optimization.
Asphalt 9 had no input lag, no crazy frame drops and no ridiculously blooming textures in certain areas, the aliasing is also broken in Unite.
Before it maintained almost static frame rate all the time without any noticeably lack of texture quality, but not now.
(In Unite; apart of the little bump to the textures (It's not even noticeable though). what Unite reworked mostly is the Lighting system and the effects used, the implementation of those weren't optimized which is what's causing this)
4K support is a great addition but it's at the cost of performance and feels very raw.
And you are saying "and for the first time looks and runs really well on PC", like really?
Do yourself a favor and scroll the forum discussions a little (And also the 'Known issues' in Gameloft site.
As for Cross-platform gaming, yeah it is good, no comment there about it's positives.
But then again Asphalt 9 in PC never lacked player base for multiplayer matches to begin with.
I played old A8 in my phone but A9 played in PC only and with 600 hours of playtime as a late comer, I never experienced lack of players to make a match-make ever!
The steam version is limited to 60 FPS while the Store version locks to the Monitor's one (Wonder why?) but apart in the menus, that increase smoothness due to the increase in FPS is irrelevant with that crazy frame drop in-matches most of the time, it's certainly better but not game-changing cause the 100 FPS (mine is 100hz) will just go down to usual stutter levels (40-50)
This is what's not to like here.
But knowing the Gameloft's services all these years, they will fix it (If they still have the same passion and directives) but they didn't release these 'un-finished work' as 'release' before...
(Since it's a free game and a mobile one too, I won't complain outside of this post since it's just not right and I have outlined every bit of what's wrong with this release)
P.S. In my post, I not only talked about performance issues so not sure you even read it to begin with
Asphalt Legends Unite on steam is not limited to 60 fps.
Here is my video where I show how to set 120+ fps on steam.
https://youtu.be/1akNM7_0m0s
This option is only locked if the monitor does not support higher refresh rates.
On my setup, game runs smoothly in 4K at 240 fps and I have no input lag,
It was I who said & cleared to you that the FPS setting depends on the Monitor refresh rate and not anything else in your own post, no need to say my own words back at me :)

And your RIG as you said there, is an RTX 4090 with i9 K version, I don't think anyone will disagree that it runs good in that GPU lol
This is a mobile game, most of the Asphalt users here use Old GPUs (GTX 7xx mostly), even then most aren't high end series models, I for myself sports an Strix 1050 ti OC.
The point here is; this is not a NEXT-GEN Graphic game, this is not supposed to be a resource hungry game nor demanding game unless they said so, if it's not performing well in Mid-end GPUs, then that's up to the Optimization of this game.
Even your RTX-4090 could get better performance if it's optimized well, not needed in your case cause you got enough juice out of it but it's still limited.
Anyways, I enjoy the game but I also see some of the issues you mention. As I not played the previous games I can't compare everything. Also the cheating make sense as I have noticed and wondered why some can crash all the time and still win. Thought it was just because their car was tuned to max and much better than me with the game. Well I not any expert with it yet and consider myself "good" but not "professional". I have won one multiplayer game so guess I was lucky with that.
Another thing is it sometimes kick me out in a middle of the race for no reason. Displaying the screen you see when you open the game and it freezes. Can't click anywhere. Have to terminate and restart game to get back in.
I do enjoy the game and hope them fixes it up for better.
