What's going on?

They made groundbreaking progress in the tower-defense genre and had a brilliant beginning and a strong community with Dungeon Defenders 1. Then they made the disaster which was Dungeon Defenders 2 which was so drastically different I thought someone from EA fired the original developers and slapped their ideas onto the brand (they even renamed the company). Then they figured out radically changing a game for reasons no one asked for didn't work, so they remade Dungeon Defenders 1 into Dungeons Defender ...

Hey, wanted to share the Dungeon Defenders franchise with my friends. Which version should I talk them into? !? 2? Awakened? Eternity? Going Rogue? Did I miss one? (Yes, they are all dead, but all the more reason to share now than wait until they get older.)...
