I don't get it.
I've been trying to get past the fence for 10 minutes. My little dude won't go past it no matter if I attack, interact, or even speak to it. They won't move past it no matter what I do. What am I missing?

Edit: I gave up. Refunded. After 20 minutes of trying to get past the fence, none of the advice here worked. I fully admit I probably missed some very basic step but if I can't even get past the tutorial room, this game probably isn't for me.

you genuinely just need to wait. every few times you complete an action you do it faster. it's an idler game, you're meant to just have it running while you focus on something else. set up some commands, set the game to autoloop and eventually you'll get to the end of the queue. you just need patience

and yes the game does mention that mechanic but it's easy to miss, i'm not even sure when it pops up. in the logbook in the top left the character mentions breaking the fence down faster in the next loop, i think that's the only other hint in the game. oh, and try clicking on squares that are lit up, you can sometimes get helpful information that way

This. You just need to build up enough damage and energy to break down the fence once.
You do this by fighting the rats until they cost so little energy and health that you can still level up and destroy the fence.
After that, even if you run out of energy the second after the fence breaks the first time, you just repeat the loop until it's fast enough to go further.

Also, there isn't any "auto-placement" what type of level up you get depens on what action you take on the altar.

oh wait, i figured out what the issue is! when you have the game on autoloop, it won't update any changes you make to the route by itself, you have to either turn loop off, let it finish and restart, or press the button just to the right of the loop button to update after the current loop

i don't think the game EVER explains that, i only figured it out by mousing over that button and it still trips me up sometimes

Honestly, the game doesn't explain ANY of this well. It's utterly opaque.

Yep. As per my edit I refunded this in a hurry.

are you all hitting the modly fence to the right and down, not the part directly down. i was trying to hit the left fence, not the middle

Jeez, do you always give up on something this quickly? Takes 5 minutes of actually looking at what things do to understand how the game works. Not everything needs to hold your hand bro :sadpug:

i see a lot of press A to win gamers and people who dont read

I have never seen someone get mad enough about being so bad at a game that they refund it. Bravo! Bwahahahahahhaahhaaa

Clearly I'm going insane or can't read, but every loop my levels reset, even autolooping, so how exactly am I supposed to "wait"?

Every time you finish an action, you get a small bit of xp for that action. Once you get enough xp you level up, causing the action to take less time. So the longer you spend on killing rats, the faster you get at killing rats.
Later in the game the whole: Killing the rats and breaking the fence, will finish in seconds, because you have done that hunreds of times and leveled up the route to barely take time.

Basically, once you managed to break the fence, even if you reset directly after it, you are out. You just have to run that loop a bit until the fence breaking is fast enough to continue afterwards.

So, I'm out of the fence and sacrificing rats at the altar, which is giving me Exp towards Rat Affinity, but it certainly isn't making any major difference. I guess we really are talking hundreds of loops. I like my idle games but this does seem painfully slow.

I haven't played the game in a while, so I explained it a bit poorly.

Click on any tile, and you will see an "Affinity" level. It will also tell you the mana cost. This is counted seperately for each tile.

The more you do an action, the higher your affinity level gets. That's the xp I was talking about. And the lower the mana cost will become. Each time you see that green +1? You just gained an affinity level and things got faster.

Yes, at the start it's a bit slow. But you get affinity for everything you do. Every time you walk about a pice of ground, that will slowly speed up. Everytime you fight the rats, that will slowly speed up.

I just restarted the game and broke the fence on turn 35. Could probably have done it far sooner.

Used the following loop:
UP
RIGHT
FIGHT x4
LEFT x2
INTERACT
DOWN x2
INTERACT
FIGHT
UP x2
INTERACT
RIGHT x2
FIGHT x2
LEFT x2
INTERACT
DOWN x2
FIGHT
RIGHT
DOWN
FIGHT

This should get you through the fence in under 5 minutes.
At the start you will die a lot to the rats. You can lower the amount of FIGHT to x3 if you want. Like I said, probably not optimized, but it works.

Edit: Small mistake in the loop. Fixed.

Thanks! I appreciate that, I didn't see the individual tile affinity! The tutorial is mercilessly vague for someone as stupid as me. :)

In the upper left corner there is the Storybook.
If you click on it, you will get some useful hints.
