as far as I know there's only 30 rats available
+5 is the limit, and I can recommend plenty of drunken talking (shouldn't take long with speed and a tight loop). By then XP shouldn't be as bit a problem as you think. You can always farm sacrificing if you need more :)
The skill seems to give ~3% per level and can be trained by the samurai. Body seems to give ~2% per level.
The efficiency number doesn't seem to go down, but once you run out of defense it obviously becomes useless.
I know, its probably a game design decision to just have 1 slot for an defensive item, so the defence wouldn't scale up too fast... but still, it feels very off.
Perhaps they shouldn't have added a rat cape, but rather a "tanned rat skin shield" or something...
Fortunately there is an easy solution in just not picking up the shield.
