Currently doing Lempel-Ziv (LZ) compression by hand for Compression III: LZ Compression, please tell me what I should be doing so I don't do this sort of thing next time.

Not sure what you're asking for or wanted. Do you:
  1. Want an explanation of the format of each chunk?
  2. A reference to the original LZ77 on which this Coding Contract is based?
