Literally no (core) feature that you already have and will continue to have amongst many new others is paywalled, that is made up nonsense. Also it is not my job to provide anybody else with a free DualSense emulator, are you mad? I am the only one who decides what my personal free time is spent on and if I decide to sell/sub-license it. And you wonder why I use the word entitled... Should have used "delusional" instead.
You do have realised that I am the same guy? And if Pali would lie about this fact I would have called him out like in the very first seconds this was posted? Bloody hell...
There will always be someone to complain... this is a game where the only winning move is not to play. You guys should go ahead and release the optional upgrade. DualSense emulation is a niche feature anyway, people who want to keep their existing controllers detected as a DS can buy it if they want the feature, or they can buy a real DS/DS Edge.
The only reason i type those in caps is because people assume that v3 requires a DLC as a whole, vs just the DualSense Emulation Part, so i had to repeat it a couple times so it's understood.
I've had DSX for like a month and I've already more than gotten my $5 worth. Especially since support for the DualSense Edge was added so quickly.
As others have said, this software is what Sony should have provided alongside the DualSense Edge. Instead they released a pro controller with explicit intent to have multiplatform support and then half-assed it. For someone to go out of their way to fix all that without Sony's help is well worth $5 to me. Shoot, optimize and polish the UI some and I'd throw $25 at it.
People who just want free free free... remember, if you're not paying for the product, you are the product. Whoever is giving something to you for free is usually getting something out of the exchange. TANSTAAFL.
IT HAS NOT
For starters, v3 will be a FREE UPGRADE to everyone once BETA is complete, this includes everything from v2 and new features implemented in v3.
Support this one and we can see more DLCs being offered in the future
So think carefully where you spend your money
Mate, from what I understand, this is intended for people who have an Xbox or DualShock 4 controller and want it to be detected as a DualSense, if you already have a DualSense, this DLC is not needed or will do anything for you
You have then the option of, continue to use your perfectly working controller and enjoy basic DS functionality, or you purchase a real DS instead... it's a completely niche feature, really.
I'll be purchasing it to support Pali and Nefarius as I think they do excellent work and are helpful to everyone, but I personally don't need it - I have real DualSense controllers, and I'm going to be buying a DS Edge really soon.
I don't think you understand what is gonna be behind this DLC. One is perfectly entitled to develop an open source software for a long time and then make a new paid version. This is not an objectively bad move. Pali doesn't seem to have the necessary know-how (and neither do I, for that matter! and I'm also a developer) to actually reverse engineer everything that needs to be reverse engineered to make a driver that pretends to be a DualSense (which is something that DSX does NOT do currently, NEVER did before and NEVER promised to do in the future as a free upgrade at any point in time AFAIK).
Bethesda paywalling mods is nothing like this, this is like a mod that has so much original content it feels like a separate game, then the creator of the mod deciding to make a new version of it as paid software (Stanley Parable comes to mind) and people being a child because they wanted to play the shiny new version of The Stanley Parable for free because the original indie HL mod was free.
Well, Davey Wreden has the right to charge for all his work on the standalone Stanley Parable and so has Nefarious for all his work on the DualSense emulation. Pali is simply having to choose between using the old version of ViGEm forever knowing it lacks the features needed for DS emulation or using the new version with a DLC option to cover the licensing fee.
In case anyone is misunderstanding this point, the update mentioned is NOT about DSX supporting a DualSense wirelessly as it does today. That will keep working as it does currently, which is by reading your DualSense's inputs and translating them into a virtual DS4 controller or a virtual X360 controller, according to your preference (which is about the same thing Steam Input does for any game except those that have specific SI support, which are very few and far between).
The feature mentioned in this post is about reading the inputs of WHATEVER controller you have and translating them into a virtual DualSense controller. Among other things, this can be used to read inputs from an actual DualSense and "translate" them into a virtual DualSense, which is a kinda roundabout way of supporting wireless DualSense in games that only have wired DualSense support. It would also allow playing games that have DualSense support with DS prompts no matter which controller you're using, for example, among other things.
Also, the free upgrade when DSX is out of beta refers to the fact that the licensing agreement between Pali and Nefarious, whatever it is, seem to allow for the use of the new version of ViGEm EVEN without the DLC, as long as the virtual DualSense feature, specifically, is not used.
Nothing you just wrote is rooted in reality, at least not the one we share, so please read and digest the information again and carefully before jumping to wrong conclusions, thanks.
That is 100% correct (besides the misspelling of my name ;P)
