Just beat the game, loved it! Some feedback on the ending. *SPOILERS*
My fiance and I beat this game last night and we had a blast. I haven't played a co-op game like this before, it's cute, puzzling, satisfying, challenging, and rhythmic. The songs are excellent and we have several of them stuck in our heads at any given time. The minigames were fun and varied. I can feel just how much love and attention went into this game, and that's what impresses me the most. I think it's criminal how few reviews this game has and I've been trying to recommend it to everyone I know because it deserves so much more.

With that said, here's some of our feedback on the overall experience and the ending!
  1. We constantly mixed up the ice gun and the spray gun, which was frustrating. Perhaps adding a small button guide to the UI would help?
  2. If I understand the phone booth correctly, in order to open all the chests you have to get a completely perfect score on every or nearly every song in the entire game. That is exceptionally tedious if you're skilled enough to try, and downright impossible otherwise. The difficulty of 3-star-ing (most) of the main levels was just right: challenging and sometimes requiring a few retries, but overall the game has never demanded perfection until now. I would consider lowering the required number of medals to open the boxes.
  3. We think the way to get the true ending is a little too vague. When The Traveler says "You know what to do" we really didn't know what to do. We got lucky and found a random comment on a YouTube video saying to check the monitor behind her. We didn't think to do that because at no other point in the game were we asked to look closely at a piece of background art to determine the next steps. Don't get me wrong, I loved the actual clue hunt, but having her say something more informative like "Follow my clues" or "It's time to collect everything I've been trying to give you" would have helped immensely.
  4. The presence of the amusing fake credits sequence led us to believe there would be a real credits sequence after we truly beat the King, but it just sort of... ended? And we got sent back to the main level like nothing different happened.
  5. We thought we might be able to open the big door at some point since it's a much bigger intractable than any other and it's at the very end of the map, but no it seems like it has as much purpose as the notes on the ground. If you put a door in your game, especially one that looks so fancy, players are going to expect to go through it, like some kind of Chekhov's Door. If it's supposed to be a red herring, I would make it more obvious.
  6. We thought freeing the demon would have more of an impact, maybe more levels would be made harder, or it would help us beat the final boss, or it would give us a character like Zig did, but I guess it just gives a cartridge?
  7. Even after getting 3 stars on every level we still only have 66% completion, and we're missing one character (who I presume is Jaq). Where is the rest of the stuff? Unless there's secrets hidden in levels we didn't know about, the only things we haven't done are the versus mode and opening all the boxes in the phone booth.

I just want to reiterate that we loved this game! Thank you so much for putting your hearts and souls into it.

Hi, thanks so much for this. It’s great to hear you enjoyed the game. :)

Most of your feedback is on point and mirrors observations we’ve made watching streamers play.

Will try to come back and respond properly to each point in future, but I just wanted to offer a couple of hints:

If you have all the stars, you should probably have all the characters. Maybe you didn’t go back and speak to someone you helped. Or maybe you just need a few more medals.

After chars, and stars the rest of the % is owning casettes and carts, and then medals.

Re: the demon reward, you might have misremembered as Zig also gives a cart. It’s a tricky one because when someone gets to the end of your content you want to reward them for that with more content, but then what do you give them when they get to the end of that content? Eventually the content runs out. I felt a cart was a good way to give something tangible for the final challenges.

Oh awesome, we'll definitely take another look around for that last character!

Ah, I figured that's where the remaining percentage came from. I just wanted to make sure we hadn't missed any secret stuff.

Oh I did forget that Zig gives a character and a cartridge. After reflecting on it, I do think a cartridge is a fine reward for freeing the demon. At the time we were just confused because we didn't know how about The Traveler's clues, so we thought that freeing the demon had something to do with beating The King and we were even more lost and confused when it didn't lol.

Thanks for the quick responses! It's great to see a dev so interested in talking to the community :D
