ONLY the person who created can host. Are you guys trying to join the old game? Or make a new one and host.
I've been playing about 150 hours with my friend and we never had an issue.
Host Steps:
1) The HOST selects Co-OP
2) The HOST selects Host from Save or Host New Game.
3) The game launches.
Co-Op Player Steps AFTER host loads game up:
1) Select Co-Op.
2) Join Friend
3) Find friend on Steam overlay that pops up and select "play game". I'm pretty sure you can even skip steps 1-2 and just do this.
Then you should join the game.
Where exactly on the steps are you guys getting lost?
Also, is ONE of you maybe in the BETA branch and one person not? You both have to be playing the same version of the game I'm pretty sure.
You can have a lot of people join the game. But max only 4 active at same time. So Host + 3 .
When my wife cannot join our co-op that I host, we both quit the game and restart.
If it fails again, we restart the game once more and it usually works the second or third time.
I have been very lucky.. there was only 1 time I couldn't join my friend and I crashed like 2 times total. We have been working on a co-op game for the last 2 BETAs he can only play like 10 hours a week so it's a slow process but have luckily not come across anything game breaking.
OHH wait there was a bug this past BETA where if you had a building being constructed when they switched the BETA on your game crashed once it completed.. so we couldn't play for like 3 days but they took our save file and found the issue and patched it. Devs are great about that. I always tell people to send in bugs to them.
Yep, normally co-op is working well for us as well and I am overall impressed with the game considering the challenges involved. We are just prepared that we might have to restart the game once or twice if my wife does not get the option to join my game. That could be a Steam or router issue as well.
The only other issue we have encountered so far is that paying for a room at an inn doesn't work in co-op: this mechanic is likely designed for the single player mode and would need some re-design for co-op.
