Great Base Location (Only for Those Who Don't Know)
I just found this out, and if you already know, don't laugh...this is for those who DON'T know.

But, did you know, once you clear the bandits from the Wheat Field, you can take it over and build in there!? You get Guard Posts, a pre-built wall and WHEAT!

It's also close enough to the water for a dock and close enough to mid-map to get to cut off most reclamation patrols. I'm loving it so far, but have a ton of building to do to see how it really works out.

Holy crap nice.
I never thought of this!!! Too bad my city is already too big now to move
My newest base location is just north of the wheat camp......its part of my southern exit area....I really did not want to take it over because I really despise all that wheat everywhere....but so far the area is OK for building......I wish there were more flatter places available or that eventually they allow some sort of limited terraforming to flatten the ground
i didn't give it a try because i didn't know how the wheat works when you build there, i don't want it to disapear, but i even less want to build in between that stuff!^^

what i did was i just put a foraging hut and a stockpile next to it and put a beggar in there to farm 300+ wheat every single day and send it over, way more efficient than any farm could ever be.<

but i am interessted, could you upload a screenshot if you managed to set it up? would love to see it! :)

The location is subpar for starting out. I can see plopping a tier 2 hall or tier 3 near there by the bridge for a second city. You will not be setting up a camp there right away without very easygoing settings on game setup and perhaps cheats. It still seems optimal to setup your base camp tier 1 near hearndon centered between padstow and Bradford. The reason for this is tier 1 resources and most of tier 2 except iron. you will be questing to earn trust on top of farming reknown off bandits. you will also be between all four merchants prior to getting your travel signs up and running. you can buy seeds and all relevant items like straps from these merchants. you will also be in the center between several tier 1 bandit camps that you should farm reknown off of so exponentially grow your villager population to speed up your grind.

I built my tier 2&3 village just south of it, by the bridge. Close enough to have your harvesters harvest the wheat, good hunting, plenty of room to expand, big field of mud for building purposes. Set up a guard post and some fences by the bridge and you will decimate any reclamation patrols headed to Padstow. Close enough to every village except the mining village so that you can cut off any patrol coming from brigand headquarters without taking a ship.

Best location is between the two bridges IMO. You can easily defend the raids as they come up one one of those sides, and you are smack bang in the middle. Its also nice and flat
In one of my games, I settled in a wheat field. I had the wheat harvested so that I could place a building inside. But after a while, I saw that wheat grew again in the open fields.
