Worker gear preset?

So I edited my worker preset, I understand the concept of the staging ground that you can order a companion to gear up. However how do i order workers to gear up for my worker preset?
Because they wont pick up the items ive set for this preset on their own.

I've found that sometimes flicking them between worker and companion makes them seek out new gear a bit quicker

They change into combat gear when assigned as a companion and change into worker gear when changed back into a worker. There is no way to force them into worker gear automatically other than swapping between the two or manually interacting with their inventory.

Whenever I want to have a lot of them change gear at the same time, I assign all of them as reservists by clicking the shield icon in the population list, then hit "K" to bring up the menu to make them companions and then immediately dismiss them. That will trigger everyone to update their gear at the same time (useful for things like when you just made a bag for everyone or made everyone new shoes, etc.

I've been trying this, and they just refuse to pick up bags that i have in stock.

Did you add bags to the gear set?

If you are referring to the food bag, you have to give that to them manually. For some reason there is no option for it in the preset like there is for other bags. It takes up a slot there is no preset slot for.

if there is a food bag available (at least in the same styorage where they are grabbing other gear) they'll grab it when they are switching sets and just keep it
