Question: Will you eventually completely run out of iron by repairing your weapons?
Will you eventually completely run out of iron by repairing your weapons? As far as I know, iron seems to be only gotten from mining it, and those don't seem to respawn. Will you eventually just completely run out of iron once all iron mines are mined out by repairing your weapons?

Are you able to get iron scraps from defeated enemies? Either by melting down weapons/armor from them or otherwise?

Do merchants sell iron ingots?

Is there any way to get infinite iron in the game?

Have played through the game a few times. Never ran out of iron. It does deplete, but there is a lot of it.

Thank you for the reply. Honestly, as lame as this sounds, that actually makes me not want to play this game. Even if it took a super long time to run out of iron, my brain just doesn't like the idea of playing a game where you just eventually can't repair your weapons anymore...

How many thousand hours do you plan on invest in a single play through?

I understand, even if it sounds lame or illogical. That's why I said "Even if it took a super long time to run out of iron", my brain doesn't like the idea that it could run out.

And even IF, you mined out every ore there is on the entire map. You can do daily trades with liberated villagers for more ingots.

All metal resources have above and below ground deposits. I've played my main save for 200 hours and only ever depleted my top nodes of copper and tin.. in which case I just made a T3 pit and both those are still functioning to this day and getting resources.

The resources are finite but there is probably 10x more on the map than you'll ever need. The only reason why they do deplete is because it encourages exploration of the map I think.

Oh okay! That's why I asked in my post, "Do merchants sell iron ingots?" If they do, then that totally changes my opinion.

Once you liberate a village you can do direct trade with them. Just click on their village marker on the map, and it opens a trade interface. Different villages offer different resources. You don't trade just with coins, but any resources you have (even they don't really have demand for it). Here have these 200 units of spoiled food, and I take all your iron.... etc

Thank you. Also, I just saw a post that says "Horndean vendor sells ores". So that should also suffice. (Horndean is at the bottom left of the map)

Another thing I thought about is if any vendors sell iron weapons/armor, those should be able to be melted down back into iron ore. But I'm not sure if there are any vendors who sell iron weapons.

Anyways, thank you for your insights. This actually genuinely alleviates a concern (even if illogical) I had.

Each village got a trader, but they don't sell weapons and armors. Well some do sell arrows, and maybe even an axe, but that it. You can't melt down or deconstruct armors, or weapons. Weapons and armors come with strength requirements. As you recruit new dudes, a lot become more or less "hand me downs", as you keep upgrade people with better gear as they skill up.
