How many thousand hours do you plan on invest in a single play through?
And even IF, you mined out every ore there is on the entire map. You can do daily trades with liberated villagers for more ingots.
The resources are finite but there is probably 10x more on the map than you'll ever need. The only reason why they do deplete is because it encourages exploration of the map I think.
Once you liberate a village you can do direct trade with them. Just click on their village marker on the map, and it opens a trade interface. Different villages offer different resources. You don't trade just with coins, but any resources you have (even they don't really have demand for it). Here have these 200 units of spoiled food, and I take all your iron.... etc
Another thing I thought about is if any vendors sell iron weapons/armor, those should be able to be melted down back into iron ore. But I'm not sure if there are any vendors who sell iron weapons.
Anyways, thank you for your insights. This actually genuinely alleviates a concern (even if illogical) I had.
Each village got a trader, but they don't sell weapons and armors. Well some do sell arrows, and maybe even an axe, but that it. You can't melt down or deconstruct armors, or weapons. Weapons and armors come with strength requirements. As you recruit new dudes, a lot become more or less "hand me downs", as you keep upgrade people with better gear as they skill up.
