Wheat harvesting and farming
I saw some old posts that say that the only way to get wheat is to steal it from the bandit fields and thresher it. Have there been any new updates that allow you to just buy seeds from a merchant and plant them on a farm plot?

I have never seen the seeds for sale.

Part of the problem is you steal an item called "wheat", that is then processed into "grains" in a thresher. "Grains" is what you plant. It's little bizarre that they're split like that. Almost makes me think they had intended to add more grain type crops. Or maybe not.

It's really not that hard to get wheat. Just hold (IIRC) shift so that you walk. That's the closest thing they have sneaking in the game currently. It makes you slightly harder to detect. If they do detect you, just run. They will stop chasing you after a while.

One of the more exciting activities in this game is sneaking into the wheat field south of Padstow and stealing wheat from the bandits. Once you have it, you can make grains so you never have to raid the field again.

the grains are for cooking...they are not seeds.... and I find that the only method of gathering wheat is sneaking around bandits an appalling idea... For me it has ruined the game...I cannot react fast enough and have been killed about 20 times just gathering enough wheat to allow the roofing of the town building... and there are oodles more building that will need roofing

The grains are 100% seeds. You use those to sow your own fields.. the most wheat you should have to steal from the wheat fields is a few.. only enough to get a few grains and you are set.

Yes the grains are also used to make flour but they are also the seeds.

Tanyon is 100% correct. steal maybe 20 come back use thresher to make grains plant enough for a dedicated field.
when you steal that initial wheat go at night
eat some decent food so you have some stamina.
build a travel post near by
empty your inventory
sneak up by the towers and enter the field grab everything you can. when they spot you, run like the devil was chasing you. stick to the roads and weave a little to keep from getting hit with arrows they will eventually stop chasing you.
fast travel back to your town drop off everything check your food
rinse and repeat as needed.
I'm pretty sure Hearndean sells seeds once liberated not that you will ever really need that.

I did it once, stole like 10, got spotted and ran .... never had to do it again. They were made into seeds and my woes were over, easy peasy. One of the liberated towns does sell the seeds, can´t remember which one.

I noticed when I farm my own fields that sometimes all the yields are 8 to 10, the next season they are all like 15-20. Do you get a good season and bad season or it is just me over thinking it.

Higher farming lvl when planting = higher crop production from what I understand.

You don’t need to steal from the brigand windmill. You can trade once you liberate the first town to get grain.

This is true but you likely have the quests to get wheat and all that wayyy before you will ever consider liberating Harendean.

OR like me I was wayyyy far into T2 before I ever considered liberating my first town and to make a lot of those buildings you need thatch/straw for those.. so it really depends on your play-style but I assume most people are already into using wheat products before they liberate their first village.

Yeah understood but OP was literally asking if there was another way than stealing it.

If you know of a third way I would love to hear that myself.
