1H vs 2H and weapon balance
Please explain to me why a Longsword is a 2 handed weapon and a Greatsword is a 1 handed weapon. There is also a serious balance issue with the stats of all the weapons. Some are direct downgrades even though they are further in the research tree. It feels like each weapon's stats were made by separate individuals who never talked to each other.

The resource cost for most weapons and armor are also all over the place. Why does it take 4 hardwood trees to make 1 ash shortbow, 4 boar hides to make 1 nomad's helm, or 10 leather to make 1 pair of plate boots? That's 10 cured deer hide and 10 rabbit pelts for a single pair of boots. I've personally made medieval armor for the S.C.A. and find all of this remarkably stupid. The only logical answer to the resource cost is to artificially add more grind to an already grindy game.

I wouldn't bother bringing any of this up if gear progression wasn't such a major aspect of the game, more so than combat skill stats. With all due respect, whoever was in charge of this part of the game development needs to take a moment to reassess.

I think you maybe only looking at damage. length and speed are also very important and are why some more advanced things are less in damage, but greater speed and/or length

There is wayyyyy to much armor and weapons in this game honestly.. and all of it is a big mess.. you will unlock some boots.. that are 22 armor and -5% then the next one is 25 armor and -3% speed there is no incentive to stop and make (x) tier of gear because the very next thing you research 45 seconds later is better than the last one you researched.

They need a more meaningful stair step for armor and weapons.. The weapon variety I can kind of understand.. maybe you want everyone to use long swords.. or whatever.. but the armor.. there are like a hundred of everything way too much.. I hope they rework all of the armor and the weapons.

Exactly. It's just a mess. There are technically only 3 tiers to the game. I can understand a heavy and light variant of each armor piece for each tier. Perhaps even 2 of each of those, with differing crafting skill requirements, but no more than that.
That would make for at most 60 armor pieces total. 5 slots, 2 light and heavy variants for each, times 3 tiers.

Weapon selection is equally messy. Weapon length is meaningless. Once the mass brawl has begun damage and attack speed is all that matters. Piercing damage has a distinct and obvious advantage since most swinging attacks will get blocked by one of your companions. As for range, it makes no sense to lose projectile speed as you increase draw weight. If anything, ammo type should affect projectile speed, as ammunition with greater mass will have reduced velocity per draw weight.
