Unclear how a pit works
Hey all, trying to understand how exactly does mining pit work and what is meant under "underground" depots? Only resources i have found are on the ground or can be harvested with shovel (peet, mud).

I have not yet inaugurated my first pit but it seems to me that this concerns the ore nodes (iron, tin etc.)
You can more or less increase exploitation by mining the surface AND the basement by building a pit nearby.

The question I ask myself before launching my first project is whether the pit makes it possible to exploit a node which has already been emptied on the surface. Because in my village I have tin, but I have already collected all the rocks. However I see that the node still exists. If I lay my pit, could I mine what remains underground?

Thanks for the thesis and i think that`s about as logical as it gets regarding surface and underground nodes being in the same vicinity. Also second your question regarding already depleted resources and tend to think that pit should still work for these as well but can not confirm.

From what I understand based of what I saw in another post. Once the above ground node is depleted you can then place the pit down and gather the same substance that was above ground.

Now not sure if there is any benefit to building it while the node is still visible or if that would even work as I have not tried myself. Would be nice to know because one of my copper mines just ran out but I don;t have the pit unlocked yet.. ha.

Once above ground is depleted you get these "red zones" on the ground - i guess that`s the sweet spot for the pit.

Well, I can confirm that a depleted deposit on the surface contains more minerals underground.
I can't say if we can move the pit much further from the spot, I actually placed my first one on the carpet of red grass.

when placing the pit it tells you what it can mine from underground. As far as above ground, it works like the other mining buildings

Essentially, mining pit is there to stretch out how many resources you can get from an outpost by a lot more than a simple mining camp.

Yes it is indicated with a percentage displayed on a list with all the ores

I still have to test the effect distance of the building. I have a site where I want to capture both an iron vein and a granite deposit... they are close to each other and I have placed the building between the two... I hope that the building is effective over a somewhat wide area because the placement of buildings is not easy on certain grounds...

Thank you all for your replies, it is much clearer for me now:steamthumbsup:

I continue to observe how the pit works, and I'm almost certain something is wrong:

If you have cleared the surface of all ores, and only the underground remains to be mined, the settlers will only generate resources if you are in the immediate vicinity of the pit.
(this can take time because the pit has a very large collection area for surface rocks)

If you move away from the operating pit, no more ore will come out.

As the product is in EA......maybe place a pit near the resources and find out for yourself, then post the results if you choose......

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't EA the time to try things out and help to develop the game?

Like most EA titles.....you will most likely have to start a new game at some point anyways.

Wow what a useful intervention

Isn't that exactly what we're doing right now?
