shame these ppl dont respect their money or time
2 stinkers came together, the donkey crew devs made a MMO game called ''Of Kings and Men'', then abandoned it halfway through....
I have literally 65 hours in this game and I'm like maybe 1/3rd of the way threough the current content. They could walk away right this second and I'd be happy and got my monies worth.
Instead they are updating the game quite regularly and listening to the fan base.. but hey by all means trash a game you know nothing about because of some previous works that went unfinished lol.
Honestly posts like these make me want to try games like this more because people like the OP and you are hilarious you are like 37 year old women holding a grudge over a chick who stole your bf when you were 17 haha
it's comment's like this that kill game. EA games are a risk because people read comments like this and don't take a chance.
when money stops coming in. there is no choice but to abandon the game. so if you buy the game and do nothing but complain the game you bought dies. it's like buying groceries and leaving them out in the car to rot.
if you don't trust the publisher don't buy the game in EA. if you just want to trash the company STFU. this game as I said earlier is worth the money the publisher allows modding what more could you ask.
I am/was an avid fan of the Deus Ex games but their last offering whilst excellent was a full priced triple A title that I finished the main campaign in under 15 hours and I am by no means a super fast player.
Trying to determine value for money is objective. Am I upset that the game has arrived at a point where I cannot continue? Yes but did I get value? also a resounding YES after all a game that cost less than a few Friday night beers giving me over 100 hours of enjoyment before my frustration kicked in cannot be ignored.
To be fair, snail games totally deserves being trash talked. over 80% of their annual income comes from a single game (ark) and they are still millions of dollars in the hole (so badly they are needing to take loans to stay operational at the moment)
Snail games has a really bad history as a publisher, and the OP is actually fully correct in that they tend to open new IP's and then the moment it stops earning well, they drop it in the trash and stop supporting it. The ONLY game they have continual support for is the Ark series of games.
All of their financial info is a matter of public record (legal requirment, at least here in the USA) and its not really a matter of people giving them bad reviews so much as its about snail EARNING THEM
Unfortunately, its not that hard a thing to determine since its the publisher's (snail games) usual MO in terms of business practice. The only game they ever really continually support is ARK (it literally accounts for over 80% of their annual income as a business) and...as a result, they are currently in REALLY bad financial straights right now. its bad enough for them that the are currently needing to take out very large loans in order to stay operational.
The main reason that they even got behind making ASA (Ark survival ascended) is because their cash reserves were so low that without a new product to sell, they would not have remained open for long enough to be able to get Ark 2 out the door (and their ability to do so is still in major doubt, hence the zero news about it for a long time) Snail often offers to publish games like bellwright because no other publishers want to take them on, and they use it as a cash grab and then abandon it the moment it stops making good cash flow for them
- 2017 it was still in EA status but they released it with still many bugs unfixed
- 2018 they announced on Steam they will be removing support due funds and budget <bugs still unfixed >
- 2019 a Halloween event occurred and never expired untill 2020 < more bugs and Tames were disappearing after logging out >
- in order to keep high level Tames it took IRL Time < Over 10-20 hours > even with the best kibble[Pet Food] in this cast was Mythic Meat which was farmed and processed <which also took IRL days to get 1-3>
- I was a community volunteer of Dark and Light went by moniker "Panther " there is also another Panther on there that was a full time defender of Snail Games then went turncoat <not really relevant but there it is >
- 2019 we sent multiple company emails and at the time 1 Snail employee somewhat managed the Steam Forums but rarely responded but stated updates were on the way be patient
- 2020 the update was a perm 2x mode on official servers meanwhile the bugs and Halloween event was still active every single day-week-month-year since 2019
- 2020 it updates to a Christmas event < this goes on for another 2 years I stopped checking at 2022>
- 2021 there is a class action lawsuit against Snail games , it fails
- 2022 they announce Ark 2 and completely migrate resources from Dark n Light <if there were any to have >
- 2023 we send emails out again and the address was responded < email is no longer active >
- 2023 we determine game is fully 100% dead and abandoned < massive reddit post ,Steam etc >
- 2024 I'm writing this chronicle and sitting on a $940 loss and dismayed consumer , fellow victim of Snail Games USA scummy business practices
There it is a short summary of how Snail Games operated on Dark and Light
