I have the same issue. and it's not just with weapons but with armor too. i have put Pathfinder Boots on all 18 villagers and after a little while only a few of them are still wearing them. the others are back to stupid Rugged Boots....so frustrating....☹
With the last update there is an option now that has a strength requirement for armor. Is that possibly turned on? If so that might explain why they are not keeping their boots on. You can turn it off in game options. If that is not on then I'm not sure but I have not personally had an issue with my villagers keeping their clothes on.
A: Yes, Build staging ground to unlock Gear presets.
Not sure if you have to build the structure or not.
You can custom build worker and Guard/Companion
hit N go to population
click one of your followers
below the picture are your options
personally I set up my Guard/companion by STR.
click the black box below it/ probably says footman
Do the edit option
when you click that it will take you to a new menu
you want to make and name a "new Preset"
From that you can set up anything you want
You can have an Archer preset a fighter preset and/or
do it by str. or make it generalized with highest str item in number 1 priority and work your way through the lower str. items
I have a barn set up for time management reasons that has my Best foods and all the armor being used.
this means I call to arms click my one building and start walking towards the fight as everyone loads up they will follow you.
if you don't set up a barn for this your people will get weapons and armor from anywhere in the camp. and it will be the best available that they can wield. via priorities you set. They wont grab food unless you tell them to.
you can do the same with worker settings: but worker clothes don't give any buff's just don't apply penalties. and leave you vulnerable to animals and wandering Bandits/
NONE is also an option
