Probably the first you'll be able to mine (yourself).
If you're starting off, you probably (like most of us) built your first settlement just south of Haerndean. You won't find too many iron deposits near this area.
You need to go all the way south to the sea-side village of Crasmere. There are multiple iron deposits that will keep you mining for a very, very long time. There are a few really nice building spots, huge and full of flax and sage, as well as multiple nearby forests. The only wildlife (besides the after hours parties the occasional sailors throw after a good catch), are just a few wolves.
Be warned young traveler, the road to/from this region is not for the feint of heart. There are many outposts just waiting for a weary adventurist such as yourself. You don't want to be picked off by any of the many bandits along the way.
When you do arrive safely however, do yourself a favor and venture up to the top of the ridge overlooking the south-most coastline, the views especially at sunrise and sunset can be breathtaking and awe inspiring.
Feel free to setup a small settlement, or a large one as the case may be, as there are plenty of natural resources to go along with the natural beauty. The area is free of bandit camps so there's plenty of room to stretch your legs (for now.)
I wish you safe travels and much success on your new adventure!
Old Man GeeMoney
It takes a T2 pickaxe to mine it, FYI.
