Those with a fast internet and ssd could still try out mods on new saves and then just delete and redownload the game if/when they face any issues. And carry on with their vanilla save.
Edit to add:
I wonder if there is a way to disable updates and still start the game?
I Personally am playing with inventory expansion, Housing Expansion, Storage Building Expansion and Quivers Expanded at the moment. The mods themselves have survived the latest patch without breaking.
Am considering the new Better Villagers one.
Am not crashing while using the mods and it doesnt seem to break the npcs either.
I do have a buddy runnin a multiplayer game. I can join his multiplayer game despite having mods in my game and it seems I then see his inventories being increased but he himself still sees vanilla. I Have not tried storing things beyond the threshhold as we are trying to keep our multiplayer game as vanilla as possible so I copy out the mods when im playing on his server.
The mods themselves come in pak files and are extremely easy to control. :-)
Hope that answers alot.
Edit: Also the modders themselves currently making mods are extremely friendly and seem very intelligent and communicative. Can very much recommend using the nexus forums under the desired mod to communicate with them. :-)
I was recommended to make sure to have backup saves just in case but so far yes. It has been that easy. :-)
Also cant wait for animal management.
But what I most am looking forward to is the release of actual modding tools. From what im hearing, they are going to be able to make some absolutely wild crazy things in this game.
Mods work fine if I play from Steam play button, though.
Personally I'd like to see a low fantasy mod that adds some non human enemies for raids and special events and the like.
Right click on a game and its in properties, just note that these days you cant launch a game through steam without it updating even if its disabled, you have to launch it directly from the folder.
But if you choose the later, you cant really launch it via steam which means you would have to apply some kind of crack >.<
The launch the game one. Don't launch it through steam and it doesn't update.
We need a way to launch the game without updating it.
