Until we get full controller support from the development team I will personally be supporting game-pad/controller functionality for steam inputs as best I can.

Ok so here it goes. I have been playing this game religiously for the last few days, and messed around to get steam input working with this layout I had with Fallout 4 sort of. I did rigorous testing, and so far it plays really well on my Dualsense PS5 Gamepad Controller. Even the combat is more fun. Anyway I was a little hesitant to start a thread here for the fear of it being buried below so many many posts, but I thought I owed it to you folks to enjoy the game the way I have been enjoying it for the past couple of days. Worth the risk.

Layout is Ready

All you gotta do is make sure under your options gamepad controller just make sure it is marked enabled to support all the controllers. Then look up my gamer Id tag Mayhew_2070 under the options for community layouts. The touchpad support one is for gamepads like dualsense. Mind you I haven't tested these on other gamepads, so take this with a grain of salt. Worth a shot though. There shouldn't be any issues, because this layout is basically based off the keyboard itself. And it just.... works.


Anyway long story short here is the layouts I have implements, and hope you enjoy:

Trackpad Controllers (Like PS5 DualSense)

+Directional Up-Hotkey 1 (Chat Option 1, Inventory Option 1 Primary Weapon/Tool Slot, Misc)
+Directional Right-Hotkey 2 (Chat Option 2, Inventory Option 2 Offhand Slot, Misc)
+Directional Left-Hotkey 3 (Chat Option 3, Inventory Option 3 Shield/Two-Handed Weapon/Bow Slot, Misc)
+Directional Down-Hotkey 4 (Chat Option 4, Inventory Option 4 Bandage Slot, Misc)

+Select Button-Hotkey 5 (Chat Option 5, Inventory Option 5, Misc)
+Start Button-Hotkey 6 (Chat Option 6, Inventory Option 6, Misc)

+ X (or* A) button-Use/Interact
+ X Long Press (or*A) button -Build Menu
+Square (or* X) button-Reload
+Triangle (or* Y) button-Space Bar (Jump, and other misc functions.)
+Circle (or* B) button-Shift Key (Sprint, and other misc functions.)
+Circle (or*B) button doubletap-Q (Army Follow)

+Trackpad Left-Back/Esc
+Trackpad Right-Inventory

+Trackpad Longpress Right for Map.
+Trackpad Longpress Left for Town Management window.

+Left Shoulder-Zoom/Scroll while hover over target window.
+Right Shoulder-Zoom/Scroll while hover over target window.

+Left Thumbstick Press-Alt (For Quick Stacking)
+Right Thumbstick Press-E (Army Command)

And, The Triggers are the mouse keys.

note: right trigger, and right thumb-stick move around the map with open. The shoulder pads zoom in and out.

- *Important* The way to find community layouts is to make sure your controller is on, and the icon will appear on the Bellwright game page in your game library. Also, make sure to enable the "show all layouts" option.

*I will only be supporting PS5 dualsense in the foreseen future.

[5-7-24 a] -Trackpad Update
-Editing Right thumbstick sensitivity to a lower value. Seems it was a little touchy.

[5-7-24]version b -Trackpad Controller Update
-Reimplemented more sensitive right thumbstick.
-Removed haptic feedback and interruptible options from left thumbstick after once thinking right thumbstick was causing the jitter, in which it was not, it was the haptic feedback from the left. This should fix some of the unwanted movement panning when turning every "which a way".

- You will need to re-download the configurations via Community Layouts for these to take affect.

In light of the new patch I thought I would update this layout. This latest change bring the build menu to your fingertip.
-Added Build to Long Press X for PS5, and A for Xbox.

TY for this. I refunded the game since I couldn't play it without a controller. I will reconsider getting it after a friend tries your config for xbox!

Very welcome. Steam input is a great feature, and for a minute there I almost overlooked this game because it didn't claim to have controller support.

You guys can also make a custom layout yourself and share it the same way I did if mine doesn't work for you both. Regardless, there are options. And, I am glad these options exist.
