Trying to survive the Wood bottleneck, which is insane :(

Any good tips? We have 4 foraging and 4 log camps in different areas with delivery and we always run out of wood. Maybe getting better axes and cutting those stumps?! This bottleneck is insane :( makes the game so tedious

So far better axes are only for better trees(e.g. hardwood). The harvesting skill is more relevant for better yield.
The reason for this is that the game do not respawn any wood, trees, making npc go further to get them.
Might be "realistic" but is a pain in the ~.

Build more logging camps, hire more villagers, go clear bandit camps/hunt/build out your fast travel network while the bottleneck clears.

it's a hard balance, more logging camp will mean more people and we are having another bottleneck, food :( I have to build a hunting camp tomorrow but I bet won't solve much. These 2 bottlenecks wood and food bounce each other with the horrible cooking skills of villagers, we are cooking in the cooking pot but I am starting to feel we might have to switch back to smoking rack, I remember them being better with the smoking rack.

For outposts, I just set up a campfire and a foraging hut for mushrooms. This will keep everyone fed, albeit not very strong. When it comes to raid day, I fast travel there with good food and dish it out as the raid starts.

What's that? "albeit not very strong. "
I would tp to the start but then I wouldn't have support from my fighters, and when they come to us it ends in seconds thanks to my guards

I'm not sure if you mean "Wood" or "Logs". Wood respawns, so if you find a place with a ton of young trees, you'll be flush with wood. Logs are a little tougher, but you want to focus on dense areas with a lot of TALL trees as they have more logs in them per tree.

Wood as it's called in the game, they look like branches, they do respawn but in our case not fast enough, I think our problem is that we only have cauldrons and they suck up lots of wood to run constantly, I think we have to switch back to smokers :(

where to find hard wood ?

I have my smoker turned off most the time but it still helps me prepare for winter. I have 9 villagers right now and we get by on two couldron and one smoker. The couldrons run non stop and the smoker has its priority set to 0 most the time. 2 days before winter I crank up mushroom production and fire up the smoker......... once i have 100 smoked mushrooms I tuen it back to 0 priority so my villagers will not use it. I can still place things on the smoker and they will come get it when ready, but not place things there.

As far as the stumps, it doesnt take a better axe, it takes the shovel to harvest them. Since I am ALWAYS running out of wood also I have cleared A LOT of stumps lol.

The ones in the starter area are shorter squat type trees. If you walk up to them with a normal axe it will tell you that you need a stronger axe. pretty sure those are hard wood.

Get a dedicated cook/smelter (all other jobs disabled), and set the cauldrons/fires at very low priority so Delivery guys don't bring wood to the fire for nothing.

Also, get to Tier 2 asap and use the drying racks on the new Forager building, they don't burn wood.

So I think some of your suggestions can fit to my problems...
1) making only one guy the cook, but I was wondering if he also fill up the cauldrons with wood. I noticed that they don't always have enough wood
2) I set the smoker to 9 and the cauldron to 1 and still I see cauldrons that are inactive, even without food or without wood, meanwhile all those mushrooms are getting wasted in the smoker. I set the mushroom soup to 1, maybe I have to increase their number. I ll do some more testing.
3) How does the drying in the forager camp work? Do they dry meat too?

Tips for food management:

- Use multiple cauldrons and specialize the cauldron
- Do not grow beyond ~5 people before you have a well (and water so the cauldrons can be used)
- Set up your kitchen area near small trees, so you have wood suply that does respawn
- Choose 3/4 types of food and specialize in that

Myself, I use garlic, sage, berries and mushrooms to produce fine stew, berrie yam and mushroom stew in this order of priority.

The small meat from traps goes to the smoking rack, also all other almost rotten meat.
This works really well up to 10+ villagers, for more I would suggest to add potatoes from farming.

I haven't gotten much further yet, but food is no problem in my village (T2).
