Young trees regrow, but stay young trees.
Trees do not regrow, yet...
Stumps, as far as I know they don't do anything. Except for the ones you can dig with a shovel, I'm not sure if they respawn though.
Essentially you have infinite woof from saplings and young trees, logs though you will have to expand further and further out
I suppose this is a game mechanic to push us into creating outposts and setup supply chains, but it seems a little over the top and could be refined.
I would love to see three things: 1) I would love to see more wood from logs, and 2) for the trees to grow into their next stages (ie sapling -> young tree -> tree with 1 log -> tree with 2 logs -> tree with 3 log -> etc), and 3) for there to be control over which size tree your sims harvest. With this combo we could effectively use the logging stations and the lumberjacks together to produce wood at a more reasonable scale, and only harvest the most mature trees. We could also avoid clear-cutting. I hate returning to my village from the wilds and seeing medieval apocalypse.
I do wonder if the current state of affairs, ie vast swaths of culled forests, is closer to what actually occurred in medieval times, and is a message about conservation the game devs wanted to drive home?
I agree however that the wood economy should be made a bit more ressourceful. One or two logs more per tree (some pines or whatever only give 1 log)... Also more planks and more wood for breaking down one of the logs would be nice too... Currently, it really creates a local deforestation problem.
Thanks for the sappling tip, definitly something too look after.
