Call to Arms

This is consistently happening to me come raid time. I don't know how u guys overcome this. Call to Arms doesn't even show on the Tab Key unless a raid is eminent. Raid tomorrow and it shows up. Raid incoming and it's gone. Now I have to run around and gather my team (and some are always far away) plus wait till they unload whatever it is they are carrying, gather up food for all of them (one at a time). And before I can even get to them all, half of them are hungry and leave....then the raid is on top of us. Five raiders come in and 3 of them come for me. My team of 5 go after the other 2. I can't move forward or to the left or right nor move fast enough long enough going backward and I die. Isn't the raid what is more important here than hand-feeding, equipping weapons? I just don't get this approach. help me please. :) Also, how do I stop some farm items producing too much? I just have the food plot, no barn yet. I set it to O (with a line in it) and then to priority 1 but they just keep filling up my Stockpile with 100+ of same items.
