Its not meant to be a permant always there thing in game just fix to issue of long tavel times for players. You move army faster you need to build a new settlment mroe in middle of the map like a lot of people do mid-late game..
Then just travel normally?
Sure it's a bit less convenient, but it's also not that hard to do.
Fast travel will not be removed and it is not temporary.
In fact time passing way too quickly is one of my serious gripe with an otherwise super fun game.
The fact fast travel is linked to roads is a good limiter. Now they HAVE to have your companions fast travel to. The map is just too big to wait for them to catch up to you. And as far as the "but you can just kill bandit camps and be home by lunch arguement," if you dont want to use it DONT, do not force your game style on anyone else. This is not an MMO, it's solo or co-op and if you are co-op just give the ability to the owner to turn on or off fast travel. Simple. I do not see how this is so hard to understand.
Seconded.
Your companions take the direct - often totally suicidal - routes getting to your position if you fast travel .. and by an large they run out of food before they arrive and head home to loot food from inventory there. Your only other recourse is building a bunch of housing tents, a stockpile with food and move your workers to the outpost.. easiest to do while they are in a downed state as they teleport to that outpost when they get back to their feet.. but that seems an awfully complicated step that could be rectified with companion fast travel toots sweet. Give us both options.. trying to intercept raids across the map without fast travel is a royal pain in the behind.
Nah i wouldnt take fast travel out, the map is simply too big.
BUT i wouldnt allow mounts to fast travel - you either fast travel on foot, or ride on horse - that'd be a good solution imo.
