is his quest a main one for the game, or can i ignore it?

i think i found the reason. after conquering Haerndean, all brigands became hostile, so now i can't enter any city without killing all brigands. is this normal?

I am experiencing the same thing but I have not conquered Haerndean yet.

same for me, have not liberated anything and dude just flat runs off

This must be a bug. I ran after him for 2 straight ingame days and he just stops so i can catch up and runs again.

I'm running into the same issue. Quest says to speak with him, but he runs on sight. I can kill him and get his head, but the quest ends(abandons?) as soon as I kill him. I also have not liberated any villages yet.

If Brigands are aggressive make sure you haven't built stuff in the villages without liberating them (Village house, village lantern etc). They turn aggro after one of them is built.
As for the pickpocket quest, i'm still looking for a solution myself.

For me it was the opposite, cause i thought I'll get trust by building in the villages that i haven't liberated yet and after one of them was finished a party came and everyone was red after that

It's hard to tell what exactly the issue may be here as there are a few factors at play but I would suggest post the bug info and save logs on our discord so the devs can look into it. I can confirm that village improvements will not make brigands hostile to you only building the belltower (and by build I mean setting down the construction blueprint) so there's some other factor for why every brigand is angry with you at the moment.

No need to revive all old threads. Check the official discord and search function there for a possible solution. I do not have an answer to your inquiry yet. It's possible this got sidelined and forgotten about. If you do not find a solution anywhere please submit this bug on the official discord again to revive it. Thank You. Good luck!

I just killed him. That seemed to close it off. Did not see anything else to do.

I'm on a different run on the game. First run through the quest was fine, this time I get the same thing, the quest disappears and I have a head in a sack...I think it was one of the updates that must have broken it. This run was annoying because he took off toward a pack of wolves, who ignored him and attacked me, so I had to chase, kill wolves, chase kill wolves, until only he was left.

Dannik also ran away from me. After some time, I found a letter from this quest in the warehouse. perhaps the tributary will not run away if the letter is in the bag when you go to talk to him. I can’t test this theory because the save where he was alive was overwritten. if you have a save with a living Dannik, try bringing him the letter he gave you
