Trapper
Hi,

How does the trapper work? Does he need wood and bait or does he get it all from storage? Do you have to build the traps first? I built a trap and set five individual traps. Unfortunately it hardly produces any meat. What am I doing wrong?

Whatever the trapper does, they do it poorly.

He replaces destroyed traps and inserts available baits. When you click his hut it will show what traps and tasks he is overseeing.

Traps need to be inside forest (dark areas with tree marks on map) and a bit away from main camp.

place them in areas u see animals. i found a spot with some rabbits and i put one trap at the edge of the treeline and one under a tree in the field and one actually in the field. all 3 have rabbits each time i check them. i don't think placing them in the dark spot on the map makes a difference. it makes a difference if u put traps near animals. i have some traps in the dark part of the woods but i have not seen any rabbits and those two traps have not caught one thing for me.

thats not true. at least not in my game. traps need to be placed in areas u see critters roaming around. if u see a field with rabbits place traps and u will catch them. if u see rabbits in the woods place traps and u will catch them. being in the wood is not mandatory. its mandatory to have critters in the area. and don't forget to use bait. i use blue berries and my traps are full every time i check them. but placing traps in the wood just because isn't going to work. u might get something on occasion. but traps work in fields so long as u see rabbits in the area.

Wrong, and needs corrections:

Traps are capable in the game to catch critters directly - this can be verified with literaly placing the trap in their path.

Traps are functinal everywhere but their efficiency is wrecked if placed in other areas then forests!!!
- i have 7 traps as close as possible approximately 20 meters behind my shack in darkgreen forest. They all are filled every 3 - 4 times a day even though I never saw rabits in the area.

This summs up how traps work at the current build.

How to remove spend/ruined traps? Say if I want to change the location

Press B and there is an option in top right I think which states something like disassemble, click it. Now which building you choose will be destroyed. If the trap would be ok, it woild retunr it into inventory, if its destroyed, it should simply remove it from map, no resources returned.

just dismantle and replace the trap on the ground again, woo fully repaired.
Didnt know that and i was making a new trap and using that to replace, now i dont need to, just dismantle (aka pick up) trap and put it down again and fully repaired for 2 more catch's

Not really worth it to be honest. Traps are broken too often, and the trapper itself doesn't build them, he only sets them up and puts bait in it. A hunter with priority to rabbits has a much higher yield (though he needs arrows, so still some wood to invest)

I've never seen a rabbit captured by a trap, I'm 99% sure it's just a percentage chance per minute when you place it in the appropriate area. If I place 6 traps all 6 will be filled and not by wandering rabbits, they are just magically filled.

yep, thats how they used to work, but there were some nerfs but also some things made easier, because too many players are kids that cant hunt :-D so no Idea what mechanic work at the moment, but I am using outpost for trapper with several traps distant from my main setlement and he allways keep bringing in some game :-D. ALthough it doe snot matter much because food is no problem in this game whatsoever.

My experience has been that it doesn't matter whether there are rabbits in the area or not. You just have to place the traps at a certain distance. At first it works for a while. At some point the day comes when the NPC no longer does his job... or only partially. Although the good man and the trap camp have priority 1. In addition, the traps are not built automatically. I set 5 pieces of traps in the workbench to "refill". If he doesn't do anything anymore, it helps to set the NPC to companion and then put it back to work. (or to change the NPC - put another one on hunt priority 1) Just like collecting the traps once and resetting them. When I did all that, I had a lot of meat again. :-)

But basically I also believe that it's a bug and doesn't work as it should.
