Glitched Broken NPC Follower

This is the second NPC this has happened to. They have the symbol next to their name as a follower but they are set as worker. They stand still and cant be interacted with when you press F on them.

It is likely to do with their hunger but for some reason are glitched and locked to one spot. They wont walk, cant be given anything as the interact option doesn't work . Any fixes? - I let the follower go from my settlement before but this is an essential npc who does my advanced research. ( You can't recruit them again once you release them - strange rule by the developer)

I had one guy once who was just standing and not doing anything. I made him a guard and he wandered around then setting him back to worker seemed to fix it

I've had this three times now. First time I dismissed her, hit her, then found her in the village and recruited again. Very annoying, but only thing that worked. I now have two more stuck like this and don't really wanna go through all that again

If you ever get your peon hungry they lock you out and you need to be sure they have a way of getting food quickly....then they will unlock the ability to command them again.

If they are stuck as mentioned, there is no way to give them food and they do not go find it on their own.

I am having the same issue as OP but I can't change them to a companion or a guard. I tried assigning them to an outpost but nothing. They are still stuck and I can't give them anything
