Old coins

I have a lot of these, hovering over them states can be gifted to elders.

Going to an elder I cannot find an option to gift them a coin, hovering over the coin in my inventory, when near an elder, brings up no option to gift.

What am I missing here, must be something simple.

You sell to them via the ‘I have something important you might like’ option - when talking

I held on to most of the coins so far. Can a Dev. confirm if there are plans for further uses for them in the future? Otherwise I would just use them all right now to gain trust..

You are supposed to use them to gain trust that is their intention.
