Golden Scales Part 2 softlock

so, was on the part where you need to kill the guild guy and some random shirtless beggar killed him, and because in this game if you are not the one who kills any npc you cant get their loot i just cant complete the quest, anyone knows any workaround?

We have the same issue. He also got killed by bandits. So no loots.

Damn I am on this part, have not reached any "guy" yet though. What should we who have not yet done it keep in mind to finish this quest without issues?

When you talk to the dude in the forest and tries to fight you make sure there are no other hostile npc around, so they cant hit him either by colateral damage trying to hit you or a wolf or boar trying to kill him, they said the human hostile npc have now a chance to drop stolen things but dont know if is only for raids, so just play it safe and fight him on a clear area

I wonder if theres a merchant somewhere that sells them dang fishing rods, anybody knows?

only way around this is an older save, before you talked to the guy. If that isn't possible, then the quest is bugged, and will lock you out of other quests that require this npc to talk to you.
Hoping to get an option to restart quests, or something like it.
