There is plenty around the starting area. You likely have past by it never seen it though. Look on your map as icons appear when you find resources.
Hemp blends in with the Tan color grass but it has what looks like flower on top.
Best I could do to explain it. Look for the high grass then look around for the dots if the map shows nothing.
In winter you will not find any plant type resources at all have to wait for snow to go away.

To add what Scooby says, it grows in places with a lot of young trees. There are a few patches just down the hill on the left of the road as you head out from the first village, and just down hill from the trapper who you recruit first.

TY I have not been in game today so i could not remember exactly where things are. Also not figured out how to get my bearing outside the game to direct on the map just yet. LOL. Eventually I will though, retired delivery driver it will come to me.

I'm having the opposite problem. My farmer decided to do an entire load of just hemp and now my storage is full, lol. Anyone know where you can offload it?

no place will buy it (until after you liberate a village, then you might be able to sell). Either just build more storage and change your planting priorities, or build an outhouse. anything placed in the outhouse gets deleted.

south of the starting area just shortly after u see the main road look in the fields around there

It has an icon on the map like everything else for areas of it, just explore then keep an eye out for the icon.

The trick here is to look for trees that have yellow grass around them. These have a chance to have Hemp in them. If there isn't yellow grass, then Hemp won't be growing there.

Trade it with liberated villages for metal, feather or nails and planks. Due to the quality that you can amass them at they make very good barter currency with villages
