they feed themselves with mushrooms and berries.. i only hunt when im about to get attacked
There's no reason why a single NPC needs to eat 3 pieces of cooked/smoked meat, 2 cooked mushrooms and 2 bunches of berries every day.
My main thing is i wish the companions cld fast travel with me...
The msot important part to feed is to get 3-4 farms running with different foods and to cook those. They feed for a longer duration and giving buffs for less hunger. also they produce more food and faster aswell.
And yeah, berries are only good early game when you have nothing. Otherwise, berry jam is awesome.
As far as traps, I heard somewhere that traps don't work unless there are trees nearby. So the ones next to my lumber yard weren't ever getting rabbits. I placed some away from the lumber yard, and poof, regular rabbits. I have one dedicated guy who walks around collecting meat and replenishing the traps all the time. Priorities are your friend. I only have three traps, so not a lot of meat, but I'm satisfied with it at the moment.
The cauldrons are a blessing once you get them up and running. That and going from hunter / gatherer to Farmer makes all the difference. i actually feel the did a great job of how many people you can sustain on hunter / gatherer and how labor intensive it is vs what you can sustain off farming.
