This has been my experience as well.
I do all the planting myself, to be able to control the ratio of what is grown, because priorities on the farms don't seem to do much if you have enough seeds to fill out all the plots of the first crop they start on.
I never do *any* of the other farm-related work, and my Farming Skill has shot up to like... 7?
Only thing I've ever done was plant the seeds.
The *only* Farming EXP I've noticed gaining, is when crops finish growing. The moment they become harvestable, I get a load of EXP.
I get 0 farming exp from that only crafting exp.
Same, I got from 5 radish and 5 flax enough exp to complete level from Level 2 (beginning) to level 4 and half exp to 5.
