Straps Straps, My KIngdom for Some Straps
Straps. Many important T1 items need them (bags, quivers, armours), as does the research for the village hall (which needs 15). I expect the hall needs them to build too. and this is all required to move your village to T2, but you can't make them until T2, when the toolmaker unlocks.

They are a drop, but killing bandits without the better items and armour (that need straps to craft) is difficult and way too much of a grind. I get you want them in the tool maker, but they need to be accessed earlier, or removed as a requirement in the early game. Its still a slow game even if they can be crafted in the simple work bench.

Its irritating to rely on a RNG mechanic for progression, this isn't 2004 WoW. I don't want to have to kill 1000's of bandits just to progress to the mid game.

This is precisely the same situation I'm in, at the 12 hour mark and FINALLY getting my second villager I'm stuck with a ton of gear I can't build because the supposedly level 1 bandit camps have fifteen people inside and just two of them are enough to kill your companions in two hits. Forget the Kevlar body armor stags with infra red radar tracking.

Scaling is wack. I know there's only three tiers of bandits, but considering the camps dont re-spawn, its kinda f'd up to have camps as difficult as they do in the starting zone.

I don't know if this is to cover up a current lack of content due to Early Access or what but as the 12 hour mark, I expected to be able to kill something other than wolves (barely).

Since killing bandits or clearing camps is apparently too difficult, you could try purchasing them instead. There is an NPC that sells them for gold.

did u guys not follow the starting quest? u should of had ONE helper right away. ill grant the following few were annoying as all seemed to want friend level, but ya u get 1 right away. the lvl 1 camps are ok with just u and ur other helper. im still using a copper club because im using scrap to go to t2 instead of making short swords. with u and ur helper u should be able to beat road crews EASILY. got almost all 15 in one trip. ill grant it is annoying but the solution is equally simple honestly. yes i would rather be able to craft them though

Except for the fact that he dies in two hits and then they come for you (and they move a heck of a lot faster than you do).

I wasn't aware they were on sale, so thanks. Of the bandits I've killed they don't seem to drop very much, though its RNG so it may just be my bad luck.

The issue still stands that T1 gear that requires T2 ingredients is just T2 gear. If you are going to have T1 gear, make it T1. It seems odd to have a game that the joy is being able to be self sufficient, but then need to grind / buy a key item. If it felt like trade was more embedded as a feature then it would feel less like a work around.

I’m at 6 hours in and have just gotten my third villager, how have you only just gotten a second at 12?

Did you do some of the village quests? There’s a low requirement peasant you can get as a second. I did a couple of quests which got me to friendly with the village which enabled grabbing a third.

But yeah bandits are pretty deadly so far. I imagine this will be tweaked. I just hope they don’t over tune this, I also like the danger despite it being quite frustrating.

But lol 3v3 is 50/50 - easy victory or crushing defeat

I have two peoples, but with basic clubs. We can do a three on three.... just. I'm currently just starting on the mining adventure as I've been focusing on getting the camp set up. I'll try up getting better weapons. thanks for the advice.

Exactly. It's like leather\padded armor doesn't exist. There's no reason there can't be an effective T1 option that's proper T1 gear. Yet they basically have you going from cloth to brigandine or somesuch.

Correction, it was actually 13 hours. And yes, I just hit "friend" for the starting village. Hence the second dude. But they're still getting slaughtered.

I've got 5 villagers at around 7 hours in. I'm about to get a 6th at 9 hours, just need to go to town to recruit.

The key to bandits, get your bow and arrow as fast as possible, then attack the 2 man road patrols. HS will instant kill them so practice is key. Then walk backwards and shoot at them. They pretty much straight line for you making it easy killing.

I feel like the melee combat is a bit cumbersome so I avoid that.

Make sure you are doing the quests that give you renown so you can buy the villagers. Make them all workers and change them to guard as necessary. Soon I'll have a dedicated guard and get their gear up.

Well then I don't know what quests you're finding, because all the ones I've seen from the villagers in town involve crafting something I can't make yet.

Bloodied and cleaved for some straps from a couple of bandits that appeared? (they invaded my space). Can't move on as my so called companion has not made ONE small trap and I've made 8??? Lazy idle good for nothing!!!:steamfacepalm: Killed two bandits one had a bow and arrows - managed to collect the arrows - BUT NO BOW?????? The other bandit had a really nice sword - BUT I COULDN'T COLLECT THAT EITHER??? Ended up with some nails and some thatch instead which at this point is of not use - AS MY COMPANION WON'T MAKE ONE DAMN TRAP????????? I like the start but something needs to happen to get me moving otherwise sadly it's going to die on its feet with no where to go????:steamfacepalm::steamfacepalm::steamsad::steamsad:

I feel your pain. It certainly does exasterbate any sort of progress when you're still the one having to do all the menial work instead of spending that time getting out there to dispense divine justice on the wicked.

There are two different areas on all of the benches, one for you to craft things, the other to set up a crafting order for your followers to craft. They will go get the materials if they are available, or you can stick them right on the bench to save time.
