Is the map procedurally generated?
I'm not interested in a game with a map that is the same everytime you start a new game? If the map differs each new game, how does it differ?

This game is not for you then. It is Early Access. It does not change every new game load.

Try something else if you are that picky about maps.

Picky? Listen, sugar, back when I was little "video games" were the latest Pong, Breakout and then Frogger. In today's game-development world, no reason to not have dynamic map generation.

To be honest....at this stage with these developers I would think that a single designed map would offer a much better experience than a procedurally generated one. I was surprised by some of the towns and surrounding areas. I was expecting a much blander experience. Instead I found some detailed (understandably still a bit rough) areas.

Who knows, later on they may implement different maps or maybe areas you can travel to that are procedurally generated.

This. Handcrafted maps are usually far more interesting to explore.

Except that limits how much they can do in the game and still allow people with older weaker hardware to play. Unfortunately Sugar you are thinking of your wants and needs and forgetting others, the devs can not do that SUGAR.

Oh and I miss Frogger and Mario Bros, the peace n quiet of SinglePlayer games.

Pros and cons to both. With dynamic maps you have a fresh world with unknowns, but static maps allow for more detailed worlds with meaningful locations. I like both, depending on the type of game it is it may benefit more from one or the other. Just because it's a newer method doesn't mean it's always the best method.

With this game it's probably best for them not to spend too much time working on algorithms to generate worlds, because as of right now there is a 100% chance of this game being abandoned in early access anyway.

That was exactly our thinking behind it. We could have an infinite number of bland maps that have nothing interesting to offer or one beautiful handcrafted map (that still needs work). That said, mod support will expand on it even further

Sugar, hand-crafted maps mean a lot less replayability for those with excellent memories. Elden Ring would be an exception simply because the world in that game is so beautiful, vertically deep, and expansive. Elden Ring set a standard that most dev's simply won't be able to reach, but enough about that game. Unless the map in this game is incredibly large, it better be a really cheap game at some point.

Dev just mentioned modding support. When equipped with the right tools, modders make awesome maps. The map seems pretty big to me.

Handcrafted is better. After playing Valheim the whole map looks the same as any other anyway because it can't be handcrafted to detail.

im not a huge fan of static maps, but there is a chunk of random to it as well. i mean resources are in an area sure but they are not in the same spot. im not saying they are totally random like icarus or something but just saying they are in an area and not wow style where u go to the EXACT spot and its always a copper mine node as an example. it will be in the same field. also u got alot of moving parts like the patroling bandits and the raids. i think living in other places u didnt previously and changing raids or difficulties u could get alot more replay than u might think at first glance. im not saying this would add replay but u could also change how u play. b line the tech trees vs b line a massive town. lots of stuff u could do

but they are talking replay. enshrouded is a perfect example. beautiful game mostly. had an amazing 100 some hours in it. now i have zero interest in playing it. ive seen almost all the world. gotten all the best loot. there is nothing to do. nothing will change till YEARS from now. u might not like valheim and i think it does need work, but being able to open a new world and being able to explore it anew TONS of ppl really enjoy. i love joining a new map and getting on the water and seeing what u can find.
