Hunting deer
Do I just suck or are the deer seemingly impossible to hunt/kill? Spend an hour and 30 arrows just chasing the same deer around that I couldn't kill because I was spotted long before I saw the deer and right back to the chasing game.

It is possible, but it is hard.
You have to approach up to when you get the "hidden" icon, and from there shoot at the deer. Try to get in front of it to land an headshot, it will one shot it.

Terrible idea. Please rethink before removing chalenges from the game, or allow to control it through options before the game mechanics drop to the level of some hack/slash generic titles.

Hunting deer or antlered animals is essentially impossible. I rarely see the deer when the eye icon appears and when I do see him, he runs away very quickly even though I am like 200 yards away! This quest is undoable and I have tried for 2 hours to hunt with bow for deer or antlered animals and it's just way too unbalanced. Sadly , I ave up on quest. I hope no others like this or I am done for now until adjusted.

Short repply: GIT GUT
Reflect on yourself and improve mate.
Deers go down with single headshot, you can hear them from far away and directional sound is very accurate. You suck at bows, well YOU SHOULD - its RPG, you need to improve skills to get them to become very efective.

I dont think this whole post is about deer hunting being hard, but about people being lazy to grind for better results. Yeah, you can come at me, i am seriously interested about how many of you are capable of self criticsm.
I sucked at their hunting two, antlers trophy was first found before second winter, but hell it felt as an achievement. I got archery to lvl 3 and then it was headshot party with them. And it was quite satisfying.

Its like somekind of mark of the current civilisation, everybody expects everything immediately and no one likes to work for it, sad.

This will eventualy remove all chalenge from the game and turn it into a generic hack/slash or speed battle games with original soul being completely gone.

Tty to be a bit more self critical, and work to improve yourselves instead of constantly asking for benefits.

LOL i have the same problem, you can get to shoot 1 arrow, if it miss's or does not 1 shot kill (headshot) and it bolts you can forget hunting that and any around it. They will bolt long before you get into any sort of range.

Wish there was a sneak/crouch option but right now may as well run to them before unleashing a bowshot and hoping

i would love to have an option so that deer can show in mini map. so people that want that "realist" experience can turn that off and people that just want a convenience can have a help indicator to locate the deer location.

Yep, thats a proper respectfull aproach. Let people who like chalenge and imersion have their hard times, and let people who want things easy have their free runs.

At some point it will propably be introduced that hunters will go out to hunt deers themselves, just to embarass all players 😁.

What helps with long range shots is to turn on floating hit numbers so you can get a feel for what actually was a hit and what wasn't.
Hunting deer is incredibly frustrating at archery < 3.
At 3 you have accurate enough aim to be ABLE to aim for the head instead of "to whom it may concern".

Please remember, that these clowns are still level 1 archer and probably ask their mom to tie their shoe laces. Please leave a little fun for those of us, who thinks practicing is also a part of playing a game.

Exactly the thought on them that I had and wrote. Lol, like what ia the sense in improving skilks if they want all to be easily available on level one, lol.

My archery skill level is at 3/10 after first game play of getting the bow and arrows made i had a lot of fun killing dear but as time went on in-game i tried it again this round, just last night i spent 3 hours of real time hunting deer... this time every time i DID shoot at a dear No matter where i hit them all they did was ran off i began chasing after them some deer i shot twice no kills. all in total i found 3 deer most of them the bandits ran off but the rest never spawn where i knew they would appear. Anyways the deer i did kill ( which was a serious pain time killer) I never got any antlers. Previous to this i did get lots of antlers.

Not sure, but maybe hunting skill has something to do with it. I tended to not get almoat any antlers, but the last two day i am getting antler like from 80% of catches.

For the shot I like to go around them so they face me directly, once they stop I aim, as soon as he puts his head down to eat I stretch the bow and shoot aiming above his head into his back, somehow the gravity allways pulls it down perfectly for a headshot.

I do the same with a head shot, funny... that seems to never work out for me they always run away. never used too.... they never did, it was fun killing them but now not so much.

Personaly I still love deer hunting here, its like a separate minigame for me 👍. Settlement takes care for itself, chief is just out enjoying the hunt, lol. Thinking of it, foxes and hounds would be a nice addition. 😋

Is something required to harvest a deer corpse?

Just got the elm bow and made my first kill and cannot harvest the corpse.

Edit: just found the "remains" interaction further up the hill, seems it stayed at the point it died rather than where the corpse settled.

Aproach from bushes, but ultimately just learn to hit the damn things from 30+ yards away in the head by practicing such snipes.
i went trough several stacks of arrows by now and still overshoot ocassionally. but it is not the impossible act some people claim it to be.

Exactly, its rpg, improve on skills, get better, life gets easier.
