You can only recruit apprentices after you liberate a town and become Bellwright of that town. Different towns have different apprentices. Need to liberate several towns to get all you need to unlock all research.
How do you even liberate a town, anyways? I've heard you need to construct a bell tower, but I don't know how to do that. I'm not in the game atm, is it in the tech tree? I didn't notice it when I was looking through early T2.
Get trust high enough, speak with elder. Get revvolutin going. (make sure your guys with your when you initiate that, as all brigands in the town will turn instant hostile). Once you killed the brigands in the town. Build a belltower asap. A brigand tax party will start make their way as soon as you killed the brigands in the town. Defeat them if/when they arrive.
Once the belltower is up (you only need to place it and bring the materials, the village people will build it in no time). Talk with the elder again. A brigands reclemation party will set out to take back the town. You need to defeat them. Every few days a new reclemation party will set out of which you need to defeat. (you can turn down the frequency and size of these in settings).
On normal settings, the reclemation party will be harder to fight than the initial brigands you fought in town. Some good tier 2 armor, maces and shileds on your guys would help.
Uh, no? You need to liberate a town to hire an apprentice, and become a bellwright. Enoigh HP? Hitpoints? are you kidding.
