Can Straps just be changed?
Look i'm happy to kill bandits, I want to kill bandits/ i don't want to run and swipe for 20 mins until i run out of food because i need 15 damn straps to reach Tier 2 to even start getting close to making them.

Waste renown i need for followers on signs near some guy who sells 1 a day. Why can some random dudes in the woods make these and i can't? where are they getting all that iron without being attacked every 5 seconds?

Why create an open world game and then create a bottleneck that forces me to play exactly how you want me to, in a grinding, boring loop? You're not making the game more fun, I've only been playing a couple days and i'm already frustrated, looking for a mod or exploit.

Just make a copper version of straps that use more copper or bronze than they would iron? let me progress normally up the tech tree without having to curse the location i picked 10 hours in.

Also, what are they? out of everything in the tech tree, they're out of place, if you're going to tell me i need a iron "strap" to research both a jacket and a town hall, i need more explanation than "its made out of iron at a toolmaker you can't get yet... nah nah na-na nah"

Pretty straight forward mechanic. Haven't seen the bottleneck yet myself. Enough combat in T1 gameplay that I have plenty of those things.

Straps are not hard to get. Trick to plentiful straps is to put your base further south from the first starting village than most people suggest. I put mine by the Fish Vendor and the Food vendor near the west pond by Padstow in the same field south of the Tin Deposit.

In that area you have a LOT of Bandit patrols crisscrossing frequently. So some tips here. Dont clear out the Tier 1 Bandit Camps instead farm the patrols. They are easy to kill and you will be swimming in straps, gold, combat exp and Honor. I had - no lie - over 150 straps after I finished Tier 1 and moved into Tier 2 just from farming Bandit patrols near my base. Not actually actively hunting them, only killing the ones that happen to wander by. Mid Tier 2 I had over 300 straps, 15 Villagers and over 10k honor. At that point I cleared all of the nearby Tier 1 Bandit camps so I can focus on research and building up my resources, while I run around the map putting down tons of Road Signs for fast travel.

Issue for most people who complain about this is two fold in my view: One they rush to clear the T1 Bandit camps instead of farming the Patrols. Two they put their base too close to the first Village away from the Bandit patrols which means you have to run around and hunt down the Patrols or clear out T1 camps to get honor, gold and straps.

If you are simply playing the game and clearing out areas you will get plenty.. not sure the issue.

I had no issue with straps in T1. Some killing patrols, and some trading. I even reaserched all the T1 tech tree without skipping to T2.

That's not a bottleneck, resin was before latest patch. A bottleneck is something that require you to a very difficult thing to advance, straps are not difficult to acquire.

I don't even mind mining some granite for T3 building before I can outomate with T3 mining lodge, granite is everywhere, you just need to grind some yourself.

Devs just look at the sort of people who blindly defend a game mechanic like this, they're in the comments right now, telling me how i need to run around the whole map putting up signs or waiting for patrols to walk past and repeating that loop. My complaint was that its a dumb, grinding mechanic, which it is, to force me to play a certain way, and i knew these guys would fly out of the walls to tell me "its not" when i just played 30 hours and uh "it is"

Every commenter either called me lame or told me to just do the grinding as playing if this is my full time job or something, guys i get it you all love grinding your lives away and defending early access game mechanics.

Well, some players play the game as it is without complayning every 5 sek that it dosnt fit there personal needs. If you dont like the game, stop playing it, nobody force you to play it.
If you like the game but there are minor points you like the dev to chance, ask them. They have changed many thinks the community ask for.
BUT it is the game the devs want to make, not the game the devs have to make for you!

I ran around the map putting up travel signs so I can move around when/where I want to. No you dont have to run around the map chasing patrols. Put your starting camp further south where patrols happen to walk by and you will farm up straps organically without even trying just by killing patrols near your camp as you go about your business managing your camp early game. No it is not a dumb mechanic. If you want things to fall out of the sky without any work play a button mashing game "looter shooter" or similar. Survival games have a game loop that is involved, has defined progression mechanics and "you gotta work for it..." approach. I literally started a new playthrough last evening and by day 5 had 20+ straps without even trying to farm them as I cant even use them yet.

Strategy, another item required for survival type games. Think outside of the box, try different approaches (why I'm starting a new playthrough to try different strategies) and as you learn the game mechanics you get better and better as does your play experience. Stop your bellyaching!

between each raid on my 3 little bases before t2 I was getting flooded with straps from all the raids. Do you have raids turned off or turned way down?
Agent707 May 31, 2024 @ 8:52pm
I didn't find it that hard to get to T2 to be able to make them. I'm a pretty dog slow old man too.

Also, you can buy them from two diff vendors close by daily for 75 each. Cheap considering they buy garbage off you to pay for them.

It gets better... just hang in there.
macbraveheart68 Jun 1, 2024 @ 12:26am
Well I get 2 a day first by the fisherman while I'm there I collect reeds to sell in the first village. And bring a handful of cords for the trip since both strap vendors buy cords.
The 2nd is the hermit to the east of padow
That and kick up the raids and lower the intensity of them I use high and medium strength. It's a grind but that's the point.
And their not getting iron you need bronze for the straps. If you think that's a frustrating wait. Just wait till you build you first their 2 buildings the town hall and the tool maker is a beast
just like in real life just because you want that fancy car doesnt mean you can make it yourself.. thepeople around you have skills you don't yet posess. you have to ask the elder because if you didn't they would have sent armies to crush you.

it's kind of funny that OP's original complain was "It's a mechanic that forces me to play a certain way" and ppl tell him no, you just have to play it in a certain way....

If it's a open world game there shouldn't be "a certain way" you kinda have to play - you should be able to make your own story play it your own way (slower or faster)

And some don't seem to know what a bottleneck is. If you progress is artifically slowed down to only on material, that you can buy (6 ingame days) or get a lot of bandits (and drop luck) then this is a bottleneck, even if it's just a minor inconvinience.

Not only is it not fun as a game mechanic, it makes no sense in the game world, a material that everyone needs, and souldn't be something special is somewhat rate in villages but for whatever reason bandits like to run around with it for the lols - remindes me of the old sheme of 2000 MMORPG's (Maybe thats still a thing, didn't play any recent MMO)

don't get me wrong - I don't mind the grind but I like it to make some kind of sense - It's ok to hunt gems to get some anklers, wolfes to get tooths - and if the dev, for whatever reason, wants us to waste gold or hunt bandits to reach T2 - wasn't there anything better?

Dunno, like you need to get approved from elders to establish your own village and for that you have to buy licences or earn them for killing bandits.

this would still play out the same way (buy it or kill bandits) but it would give it a reason story wise
