Bandits treasure.

So I killed him and then went to clear the bandit camp. Now I have the bandit treasure and I finished the quest with the town leader but the quest item is till in my inventory. Did I make a mistake by killing him right away and not waiting?

That sounds like the same quest. A female villager said it was ghosts but it was a bandit.

they should make it so if you kill the guy who takes the bandits treasure and then you reclaim the town they should make it so you could do a deal if you give treasure back then the bandits will leave the first town alone but if you dont then you have to deal with the reclamation party....

I am in trouble then as I have already killed bandits and got bandits treasure , when I tried to open it - it said it was a quest item and I have it in my personal chest , or are there more quests involving a bandits treasure?

I noticed after killing the bandit outside the village you still get the 500 gold he was offering (off his cold dead corpse) AND you still have the quest item "Bandits Treasure".
So has ANYONE found a use for the item aside from that quest?

I think I will kill him every time I play a new game after hearing his "sob story".

It pretty much is.
"Oh woe is me, I was born into a lords retinue, I was no good at a prestigious job, so I turned to crime where I murder and rob people".
"Please risk your life to help me".
