Forming up for battle
Ok I was enjoying it at first but now gathering any group over 10 is a problem. Its about food. Personally i think the mechanic should be changed that while in a group they require less food and cant leave unless their about to die from starvation. When I am gathering a large party I have to get a bunch of food and then hand it out so they dont leave. I have 15 fighters now and its too much.
Am I doing somthing wrong? I hit N to bring up population menu then companion everyone then one by one (since u cant access inventory from population window) I have to talk to everyone and hand them 2 food so they dont leave before we get where were going. With 15 people constantly moving when I move its like hearding cats. Its so frustrating I dont wanna play since a reclamation party seems to come every 2 days which is also too much IMO.
Any help would be appreciated.

Part of this is being addressed in the 1st Content Patch which is on PTB right now. That said, I don't know if they've fixed how stupid the AI is when you order each Squad to go eat at the Barn/Stockpile and they come back still with only 1 food on.

The mustering ground thing doesn't really work out good with a large group. You can tell your squad to get "stocked" at the mustering grounds, but then they just beeline towards a storage and end up bumping together getting nowhere, just as would send them to a storehouse before. Maybe storehouses need more resource/access nodes, or a "collision free" area around it.. idk..

Actually it is pretty accurate historically for the key to having an army was feeding it. All leaders had to think about that and make sure about it before forming an army. But ya they pathing is a bit hard when you have a lot of ppl at one time. this has all ways been an issue with companions in RPG games like Oblvion and Skyrim and others. Not an easy one to do ..but so far they did pretty well here imho. But i only have 3 so far, about to get some more soon but needed to get good gear made first and setting up two farms and training or letting my workers train themselves to plant, harvest and store stuff. they cook food well and store it well but need to develop more skills around making food so i can leave them to do that for themselves. Maybe the Developers coudl add a Quartermater category who carries bandages and a lot of food and hands it out to an army as needed. that might work.

But also historically, Villagers wouldn't just NOT eat when given the opportunity, or actually ordered to eat like ours do often. I think it's just a bug in the AI that when ordered they don't automatically fill all 3 food slots.

you can generally get them to eat if you use smaller squads, but even if you do get them to eat 3 foods, the issue is they need addition food in their inventory for longer marches (yes, outside of winter you can get them to gather berries/mushrooms but you have to pass close enough to such a patch and it doesn't really guarantee they all grab food. and raw berries/mushrooms are not good foods for combat). If the rally point thing gets them to grab extra food (or if giving them food pouches does) then that would probably be a huge boon (if food pouch food does not stack, there could be some issues even though food apparently spoils more slowly in them).

I was thinking a general tab for population, have a toggle on how much food they eat or something along those lines.
maybe when in army they would grab a few days of food each . and also go grab a weapon because they always loose theirs.

They would also, y'know, eat when the opportunity presented itself and not wait for their commander to hand out food to stock up.

You should be able to build a wagon that acts as a mobile stockpile and can roll back to base to refill when needed.

I'm pretty sure wagons are a planned feature, but we're a long way from that. I imagine it will come around the time, or shortly before, horses are added to the game. What needs to happen between now and then is improving logic for AI managing their own food and/or an interface to assign rations and eating schedules per villager. I don't know how much of a priority that is for the devs, but manually distributing food is one of those tedious activities that really highlights the poor NPC management systems in an otherwise enjoyable game. For players, things like this become the reason you stop playing (or recommending) an Early Access game and wait for it to be finished.

There in a slider on squad tab starts at 1 food think it goes to 7? Turn slider up and they will take more. You can also hit E and click on a silo the will go get food from there.

Don't worry you are not alone having this problem. You also add if they take off their weapon /shield for repairs. There is also no arrow and there is also sometimes they carrying a lot of items in their inventory and no room ... All the battle preparation is so ANNOYING. It's time consuming and too much work. Then you have to walk all the way to the town or meet them up and by the time you reach them it's night time and can't see anything.

I like this game but if I will be ask to put thumbs up or recommend it, I probably not. It's like you can barely do anything because you spend more time on preparing for battle and walking where they are or defending,
