1. when talking to npcs, if you ask them where to find work and they give you a name, you can click "copy to logbook" and it adds notes in the logbook.
2. if you completed a quest and forgot where the questgiver was, you can ask random people to tell you where the questgiver is by clicking the "people" tab.
3. super easy to miss this one. when you first talk to an npc, it defaults to the "where is..." option on the upper left, and i didn't realize that i could click on "tell me about..." which is above the "where is..." and it's a whole other category. often, an npc will tell you to "ask around about such and such" like a book or a particular finger. . and the option to ask about it will be in the "tell me about..." section. If you're not seeing a prompt to ask about something or someone, it could be in that section
No. I walked into a tavern in first city out of dungeon. There were three NPCs standing in a room. Clicked one and the only thing that popped up was a box with very generic quest details. With only option being accept or deny. Can't talk to them again after accepting quest, And no one else I talk with has an option to ask about that person or place.
is there an entry in your logbook?
what is the actual quest details? I know names and locations are randomized, but what does it want you to do , exactly. it's gotta me more than "find this person in this place", why does it want you to find that person? did they give you a package to deliver? want to to retrieve a package and deliver it somewhere else? is it a missing child kidnapped by the dark brotherhood? are they looking for a book that was stolen? what does the logbook "say", exactly?
on the subject of you not being able to "ask" the npcs about, did you do exactly what i suggested in #3?
there's only an actual handful of "quests" that it potentially hands out. Names and places are randomized, but each "quest" is a framwork for those randomness. if we can identify what "quest" you are on, it would help.
like example, the missing child usually says something like "find my child, Elora Danan at the Warwick residence".
you might have to ask people "where is the warwick residence" and that option will be under "where is. . .places. . .general. . the warwick residence".
but somes you have to click above "where is..", and click "ask about. . ." and the option will appear there.
you might even be in the wrong city. sometimes it's not clear about that like, it might say "warwick resisdence at Davis Hostel" and the Davis Hostel might be a place on the world map you have to travel there first and then once you arrive there, then you can ask the random townsfolk where the warwick residence is.
