You'd need the Daggerfall Unity mod to make it widescreen compatible.
Daggerfall Unity is not a mod, and it's not required to make the black borders disappear and play Daggerfall with widescreen resolutions:
- Open df.conf in steamapps\common\The Elder Scrolls Daggerfall\DOSBox-0.74 with Notepad or another text editor (I recommend to make a backup of the original file first).
- Scroll down to the "aspect" line and replace it by
aspect=false
This makes the black borders disappear.
- Scroll back up to the "fullresolution" line and replace it by something like
fullresolution=1920x1080
(or whatever your resolution is).
- Two lines further down, you could replace the "output" line by
output=ddraw
if you want better graphics.
Save df.conf and launch Daggerfall.
Edit: To avoid misunderstandings, I changed "aspect=false." to "aspect=false". The dot must not be copied into the config file.
With that said: Unless you're interested in playing the original game, these differences are probably irrelevant for you.
The method I described works 100%. I only forgot to mention that I assumed you were playing Daggerfall in fullscreen mode. If you play in windowed mode, the method won't work.
In this case you would have to change the "fullscreen" line (near the top) by
fullscreen=true
