The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall

Why Daggerfall Unity?
I like to play the original version of games usually. In the past few months I played through vanilla Fallout 1, 2, New Vegas, Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines, and Morrowind. What are the reasons why I should play Daggerfall Unity over the base game, and what are the notable differences? Thanks

Read a few responses and things here. Could anyone tell me if I should be starting with this Unity engine DFII? I'd like to go as far back as I can, even the first game if possible. With so many years between the original releases and today I am just sort of confused at where to start.

Ugh.

this is all opinions. my opinion is yes, if you like QoL improvements.
the other answer is no if you prefer to be as close to the original experience as possible.

Not a bad idea. Daggerfall (with or without Unity) is a lot more complex than Arena, and a lot bigger. Both are free.
Regarding Daggerfall, I agree with Icedfate.

Lonetrav is onto something here. I'm also a guy from long before DoS games like Duke 3d, Doom etc. I even still have my old 33mhz and 133mhz early 90s toys still running. :P
Speaking as someone who played the original when it came out, Id recommend playing the Unity version (mainly for the bug fixes). I don't mind some bugs either, but if the steam version is the same as the one I played originally, you can fall through floors, certain quests seem to be uncompletable (maybe that was my younger self not knowing what to do) etc.

The gameplay between the two is almost the same (enemies dodge a bit in the Unity version) so you're getting almost exactly the same experience, but better QOL.

You still need to make sure you're fully prepared before diving into certain dungeons =D Save before you do rash things.

Steam has the latest version (do you play this version?), and it has a workaround for the void bug (which you can use to get out of the void - try it!). There may be side quests you can't complete (UESP might know more). I don't remember any side quests I couldn't complete (except when the enemies were much stronger than my character, which happens sometimes). Which means, if there were any such quests, they were at least not making me stop playing the game, or remembereing them (I played Daggerfall from the time it was released, too).
At any rate, all quests of the main quest sequence are completable, and most side quests.

I described how I feel about Daggerfall vs. Daggerfall Unity in earlier posts.

Ewww. Ok Fallout1/2 is fine. NV without some mods is a bloody mess. Vampire without the comunity patch is a joke. Morrowind is WAY better in unity and runs properly on modern systems. Ive been gaming since 84 and there is no way the old versions are "better" This is just nostagia goggles. In the case of morrowind, It needs so many QOL mods to not be a painfull slog.... Who said anything about visual mods. This is about gameplay. And 30 year old gameplay often has a lot of rough edges. Daggerfall looks like crap on a modern screen. Most of these games do. Their art was never meant for LCD/OLED
