For those of you who are having trouble attacking, set your mouse movement controls up to max and make deliberate movements while holding the right mouse button. Up, down, side-to-side, and diagonal are all valid movements.
If you're having trouble with the speed that enemies are attacking you, use the lower reflex settings when creating a character.
If you're having problems with bugs, Daggerfall Unity is the way to go.
If you're wondering what the different spell schools do, check out the Unofficial Elder Scrolls website. The magic schools are not the same in Daggerfall as they are in other TES games. You can also find the skill descriptions there.
If you're having trouble finding your way around in dungeons, learning to use the map effectively is paramount. Even so, the dungeons are massive and complex. Expect to spend a lot time in them, or get Mysticism and the Teleport/Recall spell.
I tried spells (now and 30ish years ago) and both times found their hit detection to be pretty bad so i'd assume bows (if they exist) are worse.
Stick to melee and AoE on caster stuff is your best bet.
(its probably hold left or right click and release, dont remember if charge attacks were a thing back then).
That does not work. I tried the right mouse button (mouse 1). Nothing. It literally does nothing. I went into the controls to check that it is assigned. It is, but it does nothing. I switched the attack assignment to the left mouse button (mouse 0) and still it does nothing. If I get any closer to the rat, I'll be wearing its underwear. I followed the instructions for using the newest Daggerfall Unity engine. Alas, it is for nought.
Try making fun of me, children. I'm 55 and have been gaming since before you were a glint in the milk man's eyes. Muhahahahahaha!!!!
How do I fix this stupid game? Is the Unity crap messing it up? I have to pick between better graphics and the ability to actually attack? Or are you also clueless as to why this game doesn't function as it is supposed to?
It's a fair point, but my time is precious, too.
The post below mine had the answer, you need to hold the mouse button down not click it. I didn't want to steal their thunder by editing post. Swipe the mouse and hold the mouse button down. There are even different styles of attack from different mouse swipes.
In Unity you need to enable Click To Hit on a slider that is on the Daggerfall Unity startup screen. It is at bottom of right side if I remember.
