Daggerfall is known to be buggy even by Bethesda standards, and being on the initial release version doesn't help.

If you're looking for a copy of Daggerfall to play Daggerfall Unity, this Steam version won't work.

Get the GoG version, or search for the DaggerfallSetup fan setup (may include some mods, but they can be disabled during setup)

To add to this: Do not use this version to run Daggerfall Unity. Daggerfall Unity is created with the expectation that you are using a patched version of Daggerfall. This is not it.

Yeah true, but when you start having to download external files and you intend to use it with an external software you might as well just drop the steam version completely.

Any idea how to patch the Steam version? I get an error, "This app can't run on your PC" trying to update to the latest official patch using dag213.exe. I've tried changing compatibility settings and running as admin.

I've also tried installing DaggerfallSetup-2.17.0 and then copying the files over, the game starts but then there is just a black screen.

I'm sure there'll be a way to use to use the Unity version whilst having Steam keep track of your playtime since lots of people like that feature (myself included). The vanilla version is borderline unplayable.

Looks like you can't even take screenshots or use the Steam overlay with this version as well. What a shame.

Thank you. I had the original Daggerfall however having to patch through DOSBox wouldn't have occurred to me.
