(warning) you can hardlock yourself out of finishing the game
What great fun. The first testament you need to make into bread. It's not explicitly clear how to do this. There's some hints about needing to use the windmill to make bread, nothing tells you how to get in or get the key. Proceeded along and got all the way through to Saturday.

Ready to talk to Him. Can't get past the first room because I don't have Tender Flesh (the one you need to make from the Testament in the Windmill).

So I now have to restart the entire game because I am hard locked out of the progressing, and I used one save file only. This is awful game design. It needs to be WAY more clear how to finish the quest or there needs to be an option to progress even if you don't.

Edit: Seems like my game is having issues and you can’t hard lock yourself. Lot of great advice in this thread how to avoid this.

You can put anything on the pedestal.
Also if you keep checking your map for what is next to do, it tells you who to talk to get the key.

It’s not letting me, unfortunately. It just keeps repeating the line that I need to put Tender Flesh there and I should search my basket.

I didn’t get anything on my map afterwards on Wednesday. I guess my game is bugged then since I didn’t get that and I can’t put anything on the pedestal. ):

You need to put items into the basket to be able to put them onto the pedestal. I put bread/juice/festival tickets into my basket to get one of the endings.

How do I do this? When I click the basket nothing happens. When I click the items nothing happens. Tried to click both and that wasn’t an option. :/

When you go to the basket, you can select tender flesh etc and it will bring up your items menu and you can then select what you want to put into the basket.

Missable main quest isn't good. Hope the developer will patch it later.

Talk to Eugen during the Wednesday celebration after you rescued the boy. He'll be standing in the dark next to the inn and give you the Windmill key. Immediately head to the Windmill (save before you enter) and you'll get the Tender Flesh there.

It's labelled don't forget on your map. Basically you have to talk to townsfolk during each period of the day until you get "talk to Eugene about the key"

Hii! Could I ask a bit more about this? I'm at this same part and also having a lot of trouble... I'm at the Inn during the celebration but I can't find Eugen anywhere...

EDIT// update on this: I checked a let's play to see where he should be, and in my game at the same time he isn't there? I don't have a save slot from before saving the boy in the woods... I'm torn over whether I should just complete the game or start all over?

Did you talk to everyone on that day that had an ! above them? You have to follow that little quest line for him to end up at the party to give you the key.

Asking on behalf of my friend who was streaming the game to some friends over Discord, and who's kind of being driven nuts by this but is avoiding research to avoid spoilers:

We talked to everyone repeatedly, even people without the exclamation marks. We got the "Later: Talk to Eugen about the Key" Prompt in the Afternoon on Wednesday, and then simply... couldn't at the celebration. He just wasn't there. But we spoke to everyone every chance we had. We did several passes of the town, unless people were hanging out further outside town.

Do the choices you actually make at each scene matter? Because we went back, loaded, did it all again (the same way to avoid suspicion) and again, nothing. Unless we missed someone in the morning? (Her backup save was in the afternoon) in which case why give us the afternoon prompt about the key?

If it matters: I thought this was just flavor so I didn't question it at the time, but Elise thinks multiple times that day, when talking to Rozenmarine, that she wishes she could turn back time. I thought this was some kind of self-doubt thing, like "if I had the foresight to come back to use the oven last night before all this, this wouldn't have mattered." But after our inability to get the key at all, I can't help but wonder. HOWEVER, she was saying it on the MORNING of that day after very few conversations had happened at all, so if that WAS a cue that we'd messed up, it's pretty jank.

Do we know for sure what the criteria are, yet? Because something's weird.

Just replying to second this. I thought I had done everything properly, but when it was time to talk to him he simply was not there, and it's not clear why at all. At least if it gave a post-dialogue thought of like.. "I doubt I'll be able to get that key from him now" or something, it'd have been more clear what went wrong...

Warning: you can also softlock yourself out of the game by running out of food items and having only one food hp left after a stupid morning event skips any opportunity to earn more money

I am not sure what went wrong, I've 100%'d the game on Xbox and each of my play throughs I didn't have an issue getting the key, I spoke to the 3 NPCs at the windmill after the morning cutscene, then again by the stables when Eugene mentions about leaving and I think the last time you speak to him is again outside the windmill at dusk. He then appeared at the celebration on the far right side of the map by himself near the inn where he gave me the key.

the problem is, people don't pay attention on the to do list on the map menu and forget to talk to the people at the windmill or eugene
so is it missable? yea but personally I like that in order to get good ending you need to pay attention, since after you knew every trick this game can be finished less in a day

Upon checking the official guide, I think I've figured out why this is tripping up so many other players:

Wednesday is the only day that has a major player interaction at *DAWN.*

Dawn for every day up to that point is just "find the cutscene to progress it to morning so the day can progress normally." No noteworthy player input needed. I think a lot of people are just going through the motions and progressing to Morning after the one mandatory windmill scene instead of... going back to the windmill in the time slot that's usually just the one to get through to reach the rest of the day.

I can't remember if this is where my friend tripped up, but yeah, this seems likely.
