My problem with Abyss so far is that it's sort of a game of whack a mole. You build to support more people, when you get more people you have to build facility's for those people, wash and repeat until you get successful at cloning. Also it's very EA, not very well optimized and doesn't even support key customization. Also there is no real tutorial so, in most cases you have to turn to you tube . The one thing it has going for it is atmosphere, very spooky.
Aquatico is more a city builder were Abyss is more a survival game.
Which game you might like more is really up to you, all I will say is that I'm thinking of refunding surviving the abyss and just keep a eye on it.
Another thing. The dev's are all over Aquatico, answering nearly every post directed at them. With Abyss, you have silence, I don't trust silent dev's, they have something to hide or have no faith in their own game..
Yeah you really messed that post up with al the links and PSeses. :)
STA takes place in the mid-1970s and is more based on the horror film Deep Star Six and Cameron's sci-fi hit The Abyss! The cloning of humans is the main story here - the intro film explains it well. Here the survival aspect is a bit more developed and the danger from deep-sea monsters is much greater and comes into play quite early!
I think both games have their appeal. In its current state, STA looks more like a demo - for just under 20 euros! The Aquatico publishers did better with playtests and a very good demo that included two maps and had everything except base protection and no attack events! The demo gave you a very good impression of what kind of game Aquatice is. STA inspires me too, but as usual, it's not that easy and otherwise it still seems very ... scaled back!
After 5 hours of STA and over 3 hours of Aquatico, where I can easily count the time in the demo at over 10 hours, my conclusion is that both games have their advantages and both games have their disadvantages! Aquatico is very repetitive and you quickly saw everything! As already mentioned, STA is more of a demo.
I like games that keep me on my feet, so maybe that one isn't for me. I will be refunding Surviving the boredom, sorry, the abyss.
So my final answer to the ops question is one keeps you awake and the other has you fall asleep.
But what I do know now is which one is the most fun to play.
Aquatico has no story at all.
Well, that isn't 100% true but the story ends when you start playing, everything is in the little cutscene when you start the game, the game feels fully unrelated to it and there isn't any story after that or any endgame (and I tell you that as someone who took enough time to get all achievements).
Yeah it a building game. What did you expect, Pacman?
Go for it oh trustworthy and knowledgeable one. I can't wait for you un-parrot like review.
I won't be able to now as I have refunded Abyss.

1) Who built these 1995 menus?
2) No movement allowed with mouse? stuck in 1995 huh?
3) How dp you destroy a buildiing?
4) The letters and font in the menus suck
Granted, there is a retro feel to both give and take a menu.
