The Elder Scrolls: Arena

Why is my inventory full?
The game states my inventory is full but what my character is carrying is more than 20 kilograms under the maximum. What is up ?

How do you know the weight of the stuff your character carries? And have you counted the number of items your character carries?

"Inventory full" sounds like your character carries too many items ("the limit on the number of items you can carry is fixed and you cannot exceed it." - quoted from Arena: Unofficial FAQ). I don't know what this maximal number of items is, but I'm pretty sure it's mentioned in uesp, too.

Thanks. I still don't see where the weight is shown on the character, but I forgot the info.
I noticed that the info shows the weight of a dagger as 0, although its "real" (in-game) weight is 0.5 kg,
I don't know how rounding works for more than one item (adding up weights and then rounding, or rounding for every item, and then adding up - might lead to noticeable differences).

There is some hardcoded limit on items count you can carry .
It's sad , since it makes 100 STR kinda useless in the case of a weight bonus .
I can't find any exact info on the web , but i've experienced same phenomenon as you many times .

I made a simple test :
"Let's buy as many daggers as possible from the blacksmith trader ."
Daggers are perfect for such a test , since they cost 1 gold and take 0.5 (or 0 :ThinkingYellowFace:) weight .

So .
I'm Nord . Battlemage . Level 6 .
With my current strength (65) i have max weight (it's a Max Kilos in character stats) equal to 130 .
And i have reached the item inventory limit with 40 items in my inventory (i count them manually) . I can't buy items or pick up them from ground any more than that . (But i still can drop ring/tork/etc or potion and get another dagger) .
When i press "S" key to open the status menu , it states that "You are currently carrying 59 kg out of 130 kg." .
So yeah , there is definitely a limit to the NUMBER of items you can carry .

I suggest for you or anyone else who is interested , do the same experiment and leave your results here . Maybe this limit is the same for everyone . Or maybe it is depends on some stats .

Interesting thing -
Potions (and i suspect any items that could be stacked) caunted as a single item .
I bought 290 potions of Restore Power , and i can still only fill my inventory up to 40 items .

Oops . My bad . I rechecked again and the maximum is indeed 40 .

It seems that I miscalculated the two times I experimented with daggers .
It is really hard to navigate through such an inventory in which all the items are the same and displayed only by 7 at a time .
Absence of animations and mouse wheel makes it even harder .

ain't that the truth

It's definitely a maximum of 40 items at a time, I'm fairly certain the UESP has this info; it may also be in the official manual. This was done not (just) for realism (just where are you going to put all those daggers/potions? And don't even get me started on the far-beyond-sheer absurdity of lugging around 40 cuirasses), but (also) due to technological limitations at the time. DOS computers could only store a maximum of a few megabytes on the most powerful machines, and PC gaming was extremely niche back then, so those big, powerful computers were mostly being bought by the government, scientists, news channels (primarily for weather forecasts), banks, financial and tax institutions, and large corporations and conglomerates.

I haven't seen this information in uesp, but it's certainly in the manual (character sheet, page 2: "You may carry up to 40 items.").

Which "Unity edition"?
I'm running into this problem as well. I was wondering if there's a way to change the limit from 40 to like 100 or 200 now that we have much more powerful computers nowadays?
