Both Fes and P3P had "more meaningful content".
As mention above, P3P was likely chosen because PS2 P3 was a spaghetti coded mess.
Nah, that was just a speculation spread as a fact. FES was coded just as "badly" as P4G
It's more likely they went with P3P due to its engine being newer, perhaps facilitating the process significantly (so we don't have another Nocturne level port) or they picked Portable for its QoL features that might make the game more approachable for fans of P4G and P5R (party control, skill cards, p4-like battle and social systems, quick travel, quick cutscene skip, etc) and I guess maybe they wanted to offer FeMC as P3's "gimmick" and selling point to make it more attractive, so it's easier to sell it alongside P4G and P5R
But yeah, if they added content from FES to create new ultimate edition it would be for the best. I believe movies can be modded back but static exploration backgrounds would probably stay.
Why do people love FES so much? It's outdated.
But, I totally understand why they decided to port this version. It's much more marketable than FES thanks to FEMC. Newcomers will also think they'll enjoy having party control (because coming from P5 and P4, it is an adjustment) even though it'll make the game less enjoyable for them. I just hope we get a FES remaster (not remake) one day.
