Is there a multiplayer mod?

I remember playing persona 3 portable via emulator with an online friend and he had some mod that allowed me and other 2 people to control only their character.

Is this thing real or was I so convinced that I couldn't control other characters so I never tried and believed it?

this reminds me of this thing where 2 brothers play a game and the older brother makes the little one believe hes controlling the character while his controller isnt even plugged

This sounds like the mod they made on Zelda ocarina to play with multiplayer :D
