How to force MC to be tired

I'm following a max social link guide and they're saying to abuse fatigue for free courage, but I've been grinding in tartarus the first night you can and my MC never gets tired, did they change it?

5000 steps to get tired inside Tartarus, you will get notification from navigator then after leaving tired status will be noted.

Is that really what determines tiredness? I thought it was battles.

5k steps for MC or for others 5k steps/unconscious in battle and moving to next floor without reviving them. Tired from battles was in fes

It's really funny that the "getting tired for spending too much time in tartarus" mechanic is exclusively a positive, in P3P. It started as a way to discourage doing the whole block in one go, and ended up being a reward for doing it instead

It was more a leftover from FES where getting tired and eventually sick made you do worse in battle. In Portable it's more or less an excuse to grind courage with the nurse's office or a punishment for failing to revive a character (leaving them behind makes them Tired)
