It's clearly a work of amateurs and it does not have the value of whatever they're asking.

Uhhhhhh I'm somewhere around halfway through the game, and I have to disagree. I'd say it's more around the price of $20, but it all depends on what you get out of the game.

I also am really picky about the games I buy, so maybe you just don't like metroidvanias.

If it doesn't give you the value you want, don't buy it. I've beaten this game 3 times and will probably load up a 4th because it's that good.

If you are having a negative experience with the game instead write out some pros and cons so people trying to make a decision have more to go on than your subjective sense of value.

I really like afterimage and that game is a real metroidvania with a lot of backtracking and giant levels. This game is not, in fact the only reason I made this thread is because game is laughably short with tiny levels and devs clearly tried to create as much obstacles as possible to stretch the playtime.
That's why it feels just annoying to play

The devs literally stated that this game puts more emphasis on the combat system. Not every side-scroller has to be platforming-heavy anyway. The intense boss fights alone make the game worth it

combat system is absolutely horrendous just like any other "souls 2d whatever" because amateurs do not understand it just doesn't work in 2D. If they truly stated this I mean I rest my case.

Combat has a lot of issues,I would say massive. It's inconsistent, it tries to rely a lot on precision but the homework on being accurate and clear was not being done. This is an issue for a lot of 2D games with roll trying to mimic souls.
I'm pretty sure it is impossible to do right with jump, there are too many things need to be fine tuned for each encounter.
You get the frustration not because it is hard but because devs set unrealistic goals that they failed to meet.

Did you watch his video? The combat feels like a dance when it's done right. Most of the issues you mentioned can be solved by getting good. Hope this helps!
